Neat question! I'd never noticed that before, LOL.

Most, but not all of the starfield scenes in ROTJ do appear to be blue (with a few white stars sprinkled in). It seems that in the scenes surrounding Endor, some of the scenes show white starfields and some show blue starfields. This will change even from scene to scene.

I checked ANH and ESB.. both seem to have exclusively white starfields.

Have they always been blue, or does that just happen in this release? Because I've never noticed the blue stars before.

Well, I can't answer for "always", but just the Faces LD. The DVD does appear to be more blue, however, the DVD also has a lot more stars. When the LD pans left (or is the word "scans"?) I see more stars and they appear blue. When they aren't moving they appear whiter, but I can barely see them at all. It's almost like a grey/blue.. hard to tell what color they really are. Switching back and forth between the versions I can say that the DVD makes the LD look like VHS in comparison. It is like a white blurry fog has been lifted from the images.

IMHO the DVD is spectactular. All I wanted was a backup of my Laserdiscs.. LD quality. Well they are even better than that.. I'm absolutely thrilled.

Yeah, one of the first things I noticed about the DVDs were how clear the stars were in comparison to the LDs. The difference is very dramatic.

I'm working on recoding my site in order to add a couple of new features and make it work better across all modern browsers. I've also redone most of the PAL GOUT shots. As it turns out, there are only two NTSC screenshots that are wrong - shot 6 and shot 32. Shot 6 I can replace with THX's, but I don't have a correct one for shot 32 from THX or 88keyz. I'd appreciate it if one of you guys could redo that one. Check the updated frame reference page for the exact frame.

Updated PAL and NTSC shots should be up by Wednesday, as well as the EditDroid shots I could have sworn I uploaded months ago.

The stars on my NTSC set are blue when I watch them on my computer, but when I watch them on my T.V. they are white.

Interesting, because I was watching ESB on my computer this morning, and I swear I saw a blue starfield. I wish I remembered where, and that I'd been smart enough to make a screen capture, but I do remember seeing blue stars.

The blue stars are very prominant when the Millenium Falcon is fleeing from Bespin at the end of the movie.
