If they want to do something special for the 30th anniversary, they should do something like this:

BOXSET # 1:

STAR WARS: The Archival Edition Boxset (on DVD, HD-DVD or Blu-Ray, or all three!).

DISC 1:

STAR WARS (1977):

*Anamorphic widescreen transfer from original theatrical print, with original burned-in subtitles.

*Audio options for original theatrical 70mm, 35 mm, mono, as well as 1985, 1993 home video/laserdisc sound mixes.

* Seamless branching for post-1981 "A New Hope" subtitle, and any added/deleted/alternate scenes in earliest theatrical release (like the rumored "missing Chewie scaring mouse droid scene" from the "opening day" version).

(Or, the theartical and "home video" versions, with their different mixes and opening crawls, can be on two separate discs).

DISC 2:

THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK (1980):

* Anamorphic widescreen transfer from original theatrical print.

*Audio options for original theatrical 70mm, 35 mm, as well as 1985, 1993 home video/laserdisc sound mixes.

* * Seamless branching for added/deleted/alternate scenes in original 70 mm release.

DISC 3:

RETURN OF THE JEDI (1983):

* Anamorphic widescreen transfer from original theatrical print.

*Audio options for original theatrical 70mm, 35 mm, as well as 1985, 1993 home video/laserdisc sound mixes.

DISC 4:

STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE- SPECIAL EDITION (1997):

* Anamorphic widescreen transfer from Special Edition print.

* Audio options for DTS 70 mm, DTS, Dolby Digital, SDDS, etc.

DISC 5:

THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK- SPECIAL EDITION (1997):

* Anamorphic widescreen transfer from Special Edition print.

* Audio options for DTS 70 mm, DTS, Dolby Digital, SDDS, etc.

DISC 6:

RETURN OF THE JEDI- SPECIAL EDITION (1997):

* Audio options for DTS 70 mm, DTS, Dolby Digital, SDDS, etc.

DISC 7:

STAR WARS- EPISODE I: THE PHANTOM MENACE (1999):

* Anamorphic widescreen transfer from original theatrical print.

* Seamless branching for extended 2001 DVD cut.

* 2001 DVD audio/text commentary tracks.

DISC 8:

STAR WARS- EPISODE II: ATTACK OF THE CLONES (2002):

* Anamorphic widescreen transfer from digital source material.

* Seamless branching for theatrical/digital theatrical/2002 DVD cuts.

* 2002 DVD audio/text commentary tracks.

DISC 9:

STAR WARS EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE SITH (2005):

* Anamorphic widescreen transfer from digital source material.

* Original theatrical version (with that wipe/scene transition that was deleted for the 2005 DVD)

* 2005 DVD text/audio commentary tracks.

DISCS 10-12:

STAR WARS TRILOGY (2004) DVD CUTS, with 2004 DVD audio commentary tracks.

DISCS 13-??????

Archival bonus material:

* Original trailers/tv spots/documentaries for all six films (and Special Editions), as well as newly produced and in-depth extras. Hours and hours of extras/photo galleries, etc!

BOXSET # 2:

STAR WARS: THE COMPLETE SAGA (on DVD, HD-DVD or Blu-Ray, or all three!):

All six films in numerical order, presented as one long story on six discs (with no extras), and all the "final" tinkering that's going to be done to "finish" the movies once and for all.

Theres one of these threads at starwars.com but I didnt' bother posting in it cause it was already filled with alot of bad ideas. Replacing Obiwan with the new actor? Nope.

I really would like to see alot of the creature effects replaced with CG versions. Especially yoda. And also fix the light saber colors. I know my first one is blasphemy thing but since I got my original versions now I'd like to see it tweaked out more.

This is what I would want (which we're not going to get):

discs 1 & 2) Star Wars - 1977 version, anamorphic. Extras: deleted scenes, alternate takes, etc.

discs 3 & 4) ESB - 1980 version, anamorphic. Extras: deleted scenes, alternate takes, etc.

discs 5 & 6) ROTJ - 1983 version, anamorphic. Extras: deleted scenes, alternate takes, etc.

2.0 sound is fine. I don't care about 5.1 sound. I also don't care about the Special Editions or Episodes 1-3.

LOL @ Cable-X1.

I think the '07 set will contain a lot, but I doubt it will be too big; it still has to be semi-cost effective for consumers to buy, and not many people can or will want to afford anything over $100 IMO. And another interesting thing in the mix here is Lucas needs to be careful at just what he puts in this set, and it has to be something very, very unique. Most of the fans have bought the same movies a few times over and even the die-hards will have a tough time buying all the movies for a 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th time again!

I think that it will either A) go the way of LOTR and you will get both versions on the same disk, extra disks with documentaries, etc. or B) another idea I have been kicking around, and there will be MULTIPLE boxed sets. Example: OUT box set, SE box set with PTs, etc. This way, Lucas will be able to double-dip on the die-hard fans.

One of my sources gave me a partial list of what the Thirtieth Anniversary Box Set will include; I've put the list online here. You may not want to click on the link if you're at work or if you're very young -- you may find yourself screaming with joy!

Aw, too bad nature played the ultimate practical joke on George Lucas's penis. All the CG in the world isn't going to help there, buddy.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Personally, I'm just hoping this new boxed set doesn't end up being a rush job like the 2004 discs. I hope Lucasfilm has allotted the time to giving care to each film. No more incosistent color timing and wonky lightsaber effects. After that, I had hoped they would spend more time in providing each film with a great indivisual release. If there is a series of films which deserve big, multi disc sets for each movie, Star Wars would be it. My dream would be to get the original theatrical versions of each film as well as the altered definitive version George has cooked up. Then give 2-3 discs worth of extras. These would include both older, vintage programs as well as newly produced material. Then you'd have your deleted scenes, commmentaries, etc.

It all depends on the scope of this release. I doubt they'll include the theatrical cut of any of the films since they probably want to keep it in line with Lucas' new visions of the films. If each movie gets its own extras disc, the perfect example would be the Alien Quadrilogy, which packs over three hours worth of great, comprehensive documentaries, deleted scenes, screen tests, and extensive galleries onto a bonus disc for each film in the series. But for Star Wars, that would mean 12 discs, which is already up there in the disc count. If they go for more discs, then great and the possibilities would be endless. If not, then the Alien set would be an ideal model, even if the original versions of the films aren't included. My only hope is that the extra material is, for the most part, new material created for or released exclusively on this set. This way, it would feel less like they're making us buy the same discs for the 20th time.

I personally say each movie should be given the 4 disc treatment that Lord Of The Rings did in their Extended Versions. Those are some NICE releases. Star Wars deserves that kind of treatment. Then just sell all six in some cool slipcase...

I wouldn't quite phrase it that way, I feel the same. If it has a good release of the OOT, then I'll but it and be interested in Star Wars and Lucasfilm products again. Otherwise, my answer is the same as it will be to all LFL products, with the possible exception of Indy 4, until I see an OOT DVD release: "that's nice."

And no burned in subtitles!!

Okay, my suggestion is since the 09/12 release is over with maybe we should all write to LFL with out ideas for this next release. I would imagine their minds are made up and most of what they want to include is decided, but hey, it is worth a shot. My only advice is:

1. BE POLITE! You won't be taken seriously if you are rude.
2. Don't say a negative word about the SEs if you don't like them. If you must mention them. say something like, "Even though I am not a fan of the SEs per se, I do understand that they will be included and I completely respect that. But fans like myself and others I have talked to would really enjoy seeing the OUT in anamorphic, and we feel a boxed set cannot be complete without them...". Something like that. It may also help to mention that we have all purchased SW movies a few times over and this set will need to be something special.
3. If you have any suggestions to kae the OUT release better, this would be a great time to mention it (eg. burned-in subtitles).

Remember: you catch a lot more flies with honey than you do with vinegar.

I'm pretty sure we already got our theatrical versions, and that's all we'll ever get, which is fine with me. All I want in the boxset is the finalized version of the Saga- everthing from 2004 and more. Fixed Yoda in TPM, whatever mistakes (Hayden, Jabba, Jedi Rocks, Greedo, etc were NOT mistakes, as much as most of you would like to believe) like lightsaber colors in the OT. And maybe some extras that haven't been released before. That's all. Oh wait, Clone Wars should be included as well, with an "Episode II 2.5" crawl, both volumes edited into one.

Sorry haters, but this will be a six (hopefully 7) movie boxset, this will be the complete Star Wars Saga. You need to stop pretending that the prequels don't exist. Everyone I know in real life likes (or loves) the prequels. There are a lot of fans, probably even some of you pretend to hate them so you can seem "cooler" or something, because prequel hating is the "in" thing right now.

That sounds like a good idea for a set, unless it has the originals on it, Im not really interested in anything more George has to offer, I already have the SE and the Prequels to my satisfaction, maybe TPM with a digital Yoda might interest me, but I dont really want to spend anymore on the franchise, If I can get hold of X0 version that will probably satisfy me as my definitive OOT, so if I get them by the 30th Anniversary or whenever, I will then probably be done with SW for good....

If I was GL, I would restore the scenes that were removed/modified from OUT (Han shooting first, Lapti Nek, Yub Nub, "Bring my shuttle" etc) and make seamless branching version for each of Episode IV-VI.
I would get just as much additional quality-improving work done for the movies as what is currently being done for Adywan's SE editing project. I would personally supervise the work on each and every frame to make sure that it gets the treatment it deserves.

Personally, I would prefer a release that is technically superior to any other release, but with the storyline, pacing and dialogue of the '93 versions. I know people who prefer the SE, so I think it should continue to be released.

For Episode I, II and III, make seamless branching versions with and without the deleted scenes (with exception of scenes that do not fit in the storyline). Use the CG Yoda in TPM.

For each deleted/branching scene, make it also a separate segment with preamble like on the current PT DVD:s.

Release Return of the Ewok, Beneath the Dome and the Muppet Show episode together with documentaries on a bonus disc, with the Holiday Special as an easter egg.

Don't tell me that some people are "afraid" to like certain movies because it's considered to be a stupid movie. There are many times I simply don't state my opinion on certain movies, because I don't want to be the "only one". In reality, there are very very very very few movies I dislike. For example, I enjoy EVERY SINGLE ACTION movie, some of course more than others, but the only movies I don't like are the "boring" ones, like About Shmidt.

You like most of the stupid, mindless action flicks and you think About Schmidt is boring.

I thought we wanted burned in subtitles. The lack of that is what's screwing everybody over.

I think everyone's screaming over badly placed subtitles. They could've been made 16:9 safe, but they weren't.

And if they were burned-in, that trouble wouldn't exist because they'd be safely in the image (where they're supposed to be) no matter what kind of television setup you have. And how about with the nice original font?

Actually, the font used on the '93/'95 editions was NOT the original font. If you have a copy of the boot from '77, this can be verified.

Although I do like the 93/95 font better!

This I'd like to see. But I'm positive the font used on the DVDs isn't the real font either. And I'm sure in theatres, the subtitles weren't outside of the picture. But thanks for informing me.
