Yes, I too believe NOTHING that LFL tells us. But I am sure this will be it for DVD. It took almost 10 years to get them just to DVD in the form that they are in, so I imagine we have a few more years yet*. By that time, DVD will probably be on its way out.

*30th anniv. set aside, but I don't think a cleaned up transfer will be in there IF the OUT is even inlcuded in the first place. And heck, even if it is, I have no desire for it because A) it will be expensive and B) it will have the PT in it. NO THANKS!

"Oh yeah, I have an unshkeable faith that lucasfilm always lies to us, and we will get a mega-hyper real life just like in 77-83 OUT because of marketing scams"
I however am being more real, dammit! If the rumors are true that there are 4-eyed stormtroopers and this will be the ultimate release, your screwed both ways. Lucasfilm will absolutely never deliver because it has beeen his life goal over the past 12 years to completely destroy everything that was good about SW. (PT and SE concrete examples)

I'll say it like this:

These aren't the disks I'm looking for. I'll go about my business and move along.

The money-making marketing machinery of LFL has no influence on my mind.

People are misinterpreting the starwars.com statement.

They say very clearly that the original unaltered trilogy is being released ON DVD for the first and only time..

They have embraced LD previously, you can bet it will be out in other formats in future.

I'm not sure that this is the only time we will ever see the O-OT/OUT on DVD. Not counting a potential HD-DVD/blu-ray release, Lucasfilm hasn't exactly stuck by its past statements. Lucas swore at one point that Star Wars would never be released in any home video format because the only way to see it is in theatres. Then there is the famous "one last time" promotion for the 'Faces' release before the SEs came about. And I'm sure there have been others. Don't get too excited by a statement saying never again. It doesn't mean anything.

They always say movies are "only in theaters" before they are released on home video, because up until they are released on home video, they are "only in theaters".

The "last time" to own the O-OT wasn't BS. He changed his mind after sites like these made it clear that we weren't going to take no for an answer.

To me this release reeks of "What do you mean you didn't believe me before? I wrote it right on the box! It was in all the ad campaigns! Fine here it is again, but seriously that is it! These older versions of the films mean nothing to me and I would rather just put them behind me."

But it really WAS "one last time" when you think about it, because the SEs are not the OUT; until now, the Faces set was the last time we saw the OUT...

Well, come on guys, they can't exactly admit to being liars...

If they did, it would look like this:
"Alright, we here at LFL are going to set the record straight by making this public statement - everything that comes out of our mouth is a LIE. Except that last statement. Except that last statement. Except that last statement. Except that last statement. Except that last statement. Except that last statement. Except that last statement. Except that last statement....."

And on and on and on forever.

If you were lying you wouldn't admit to it either.

Does that automatically mean you are lying all the time?

I don't know, I mean, Lucasfilm have said that so many times. I don't really know what to think. I hope it isn't true, but with Lucas, you never know.

Again, although a dirty trick and not at all fair to the fans IMO, they were pretty truthful in regards to the OUT. "For the last time on VHS..." is what I recall one of the adds saying when the "Faces" set came out. And even though the SEs came out on VHS years later also, they weren't the OUT, so there was no false advertising there.

I just read recently about a whole bunch of releases coming to HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. The studios won't continue to dump money into two seperate formats for long IMO so I imagine something is going to happen soon to create a clear winner. Because of this, IF we see the OUT again, I stand by my statements and think it will be on the next format (again, 30th Anniv. aside).

Well, I hope that we WILL.

Seriously, Mike, you gotta stop doing that. His post was right above yours.
