No one here is about hate. But there are people here who attempt to devalue the word by applying it to criticism, dislike, etc.

Whatever dude. You move from forum to forum posting purposely antagonistic comments like like "My parents think the OT is a piece of crap", and then you criticize there demeanor when they tell you to get lost. Don't poke the big bear with a stick you little turd.

I agree, Rob is a total fucking DICK.

He's always telling people he will fight them.

He's said it to me before after I took some of his food. I said "No" and he told me something like "It's a good thing because I would really razzle dazzle you."

I was glad I wasn't razzle dazzled that day.

Sorry to cluter up the thread ronlaw, I just get irritated when people sign up for the express reason of posting antagonistic comments which are irrelevant to the discussion. Especially when they have a history of this on other forums. This is just his latest stop on a path to annoying as many people as he can. As for you Dinkins, I'd be on your best behavior, razzle and dazzle are still on the table...gnyuff!

I was just pointing out that I am glad my parents didn't force their personal taste down my throat, because it allowed me to develope my own personallity unto myself.

Oh well I'm a sucker for irony, and someone coming into this thread to personally attack me, trying to say I'm just here to derail threads by annoying others is comic gold.

I will apologise in advance if my not thinking like some of the rest of you is annoying.

About this letter to Lucas,

I don't understand why this guy didn't just hold on to his laserdisc or VHS copies of the pre-se and not even worry about the new ones if they are going to upset him so much. Now that we at least have the O-OT on DVD, he should be fine now. Maybe not as fine as if it were anamorphic, but better than he was before with just the SE available on DVD.

What I really like about this new individual release of the classic trilogy is the SE disc is in the middle flap thingy. All you do is take that out and throw it away (maybe cut the insert down the middle so you only keep the O-OT chapter listings) and you could just pretend the SE never existed.

Oh get the fuck over yourself you silly twat.

Simply not thinking like "the rest of us" isn't annoying in the least, but thinking differently and being obnoxious aren't mutually exclusive. Purposely posting inflammatory comments falls under the very definition of "annoying." If you're unable to recognize why your original post was a trollish attempt to annoy people then maybe one of the two gerbils that spins the two tiny wheels in your head has fallen asleep.

See - I'm clearly thinking differently and being annoying at the very same time. Funny how that works.

You and I GoMerTonic, we're like two peas in a pod. The difference being I'm the delicious pea that everyone wants to stew and you're the weird shriveled pea that I stuck up my ass when I was three.

I think it would be great to get better versions of the O-OT on DVD, but I'm at least glad Lucas met us half way on this.

I don't know if I personally would call it hate, as much as frustration. I always thought that I would be happy once Lucas releases the OOT on DVD. He could redo as much as he wanted, as long as he gave us the OOT. I never thought that he would end up releasing such a cheaply done rip of the laserdisc masters, that isn't even anamorphic or anything. The man who brought us THX, and that was the best he could do? Oh, well. I guess it could be worse. We got something, and I didn't think that would even happen.
As for the prequels, yes, I don't think they are nearly as good as the OOT. ROTS was good, and I actually thought that Phantom Menace was ok, once I started ignoring Jar-Jar. Attack of the Clones was awful.
If you liked the prequels, check out some of the edits that have been done by the members around here. Magnoliafan did a great edit of the first two, as have some others.

According to Lucas, the original negatives of the O-OT were permanantley altered when he created the SE version, and all the prints they have left of the O-OT are in poor quality.

Actually what they did give us is substantially better than a laserdisc rip. I am sure you know they went to the laserdisc master for their O-OT transfer.

I do agree it would be better if it had been anamorphic but at least Lucas did release it on DVD.

Personally I think this is the best the O-OT has looked on home video so far, not counting the 2004 SE version.

I did see one of the Phantom Edits, but I didn't think it was all that good. It was the one that didn't alter Jar-Jar's dialogue. For some reason they cut out some of the more important scenes, and left in some of the more annoying bits with Jar-Jar.

Personally I loved Jar-Jar, but I figured the first priority for making a fan edit like this was to get rid of as much Jar-Jar stuff as possible.

I don't think that was the Magnoliafan edit though.

I don't know if I would take that sentiment that far. I figure if it keeps people from breaking their FF button while allowing them to still enjoy the movie it can't be all that bad.

That said, I have yet to see one that is actually better than what Lucas had done. So far the one I saw just seemed to cut certain scenes out without repairation. It was in every way a lesser film than what Lucas put out. But if some people really can't stand the full extent of Lucas' taste, I say it's better to enjoy less of the Phantom Menace than to enjoy none of it at all.

I don't like that argument. "Be grateful you got anything at all" is like haveing asked for food and being given moldy spam. It's food, but not good food by anyone's standards. Lucas did not meet us halfway; he did the least amount of work possible to put out a product so that he could make money. The latter is not good, bad, or indifferent. It is the former that is the problem.

You're entitled to disagree. The problem is that you keep insulting the forum and its members.

Where exacly am I going to find the millions of dollars to edit my own movie, though? Fanedits probably make for a great experience for aspiring filmakers.
