well, he supposedly got "fired" by Peter Jackson on scoring King Kong and was replaced by James Newton Howard...

I don't know if there's any tension between them (because, hey, what do I know about these people besides professionally?)... but yeah... there's your answer.

I'm just hoping that he makes up with Howard Shore. How awesome would it be to hear his score thundering thought Jackson's blistering vision of the Battle of Five armies.

Makes up? What happened between them?

"Creative differences" on King Kong. Which I would conjecture means a clash of egos.

Here's hoping they get over themselves.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

Indeed. I agree with the comments about taking this a grain of salt, but remember the following: DVD Times stated has Jackson announced that he would make The Hobbit, and my personal opinions about the people who run it aside, they are a reliable source. Two, the reason it was held up was a rights issue, so if New Line have the rights to Rankin-Bass's version then think where it is leading. I agree about Shore and Jackson. A pairing up there with Spielberg/Williams, Burton/Elfman, and Cronenberg/Shore.

Who can forget the Shore score for Cronenberg's 1986 remake of "The Fly"?

Surprisingly moving stuff.

I hope he actually keeps Ian Holm, Ian McK, Hugo Weaving and Andy Serkis in the film too. I'd like a complete and total tie-in between the two.

Beyond that, I'm all for an HBO Miniseries for The Silmarillion produced by Jackson. Would that not be uber-cool?

I really doubt that an adapation of The Silmarillion that didn't last 40 hours would be possible . I just don't know about Holm; he's a bid old. McKellen is a must though, and a Christopher Lee cameo please . And Howare Shore is a must!

The Hobbit isn't listed on the IMDb, for whatever that is worth. I haven't heard much about what he's going to do after The Lovely Bones

I hope they get Peter Jackson to direct. Really after watching the amazing expanded Lord of The Rings Trilogy thats the only thing missing.

Thanks for that link, Lord Phillock.

Doesn't look like it will be coming along soon, at least not with Jackson's involvement. I'm not into the 2 film idea - that seems like milking it. You need Jackson, Shore, McKellen. Holm is optional.

Agreed. If the volumes of the LOTR trilogy could each be a single part, then The Hobbit could be fit more than comfortatbly into one film. I hope Jackson does it soon.
