I never really got into Gargoyles, but I've always heard it was really good.

Not releasing the whole show on DVD is just stupid.

I'd only assist on this cause if Disney kept on its broken promise to finish a restored version of "The Thief and the Cobbler" closer to Richard William's original vision. THAT'S worth saving, not Gargoyles...

Well, Gagoyles may be off the air, but imagine if Firefly had not only been cancelled, but we didn't even have our DVD sets? I know nothing of The Thief and the Cobbler, but we need all of the help that we can get. Plus, remember, Diney split from Maramax. That might be why they bailed. Please, I impore you, we need all of the help that we can get!

Can we count on you to spread the word as far and wide as possible?

Creator Greg Wiseman told fans at ComicCon that if they each told 1,000 people to buy the last two sets then that would be enough. The recent Gargoyles comics sold out, so Disney must have noticed, so this would be perfect timing. Sales have been reasonably steady, we just need to raise them.

Nothing. That was based on my opinion. Thief and the Cobbler is the most beautifully animated north-american movie ever produced, tooking almost 40 years in the making. Unfortunally it was left incomplete, with Miramax editing it and using cheap korean animators to add some songs and dialogue to it. I've see a fan-restored version, and it's absolutely amazing.

I've seen this version some time ago at a fan-made DVD, but someone managed to get all the parts on youtube:

Star with part 1 and move to the next ones, or, if you wanna be amazed, watch the last 2 parts.

The only difference from the version I've seen is the voice soundtrack for the last part.

Keep in mind two things: this version's voice soundtrack is from the mid 60s, the animation was done from the mid 60s to 1991 I think at a very slow pace due to the complexity, and there's 20 minutes of animation missing, filled with partial animation, tests, and story boards.

This is the american animation masterpiece lost forever due to ignorance and lack of vision from the producers and financers...

If you mean for Gargoyles, I suppose he just wants people to buy the DVD sets so the following season can be released. For The Thief and the Cobbler, there's not much to be done, the movie is pretty much lost forever. You MAY see a Miramax buthcered version that has 40% of the original animation, plus crappy korean animation and a different plot, with new recorded voices (except for Vicent Price's, which was recorded back in the early 60s) being sold as "Arabian Nights".

I personally dislike Gargoyles, but it should be released in full on DVD for those who do enjoy it. But Disney is unbelievably unprofessional at these TV dvd's. They've released a volume one of Duck Tales, Chip N' Dale Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck AND Tale Spin only in volume one, and only the latter two includes the pilot episodes. Disney needs to learn that when you start to release a series on DVD, you're commited to it.

Yeah, they also discontinued their Boy Meets World boxsets after the third season. I was really pissed about that.

Hmn. Couldn't this be a marketing ploy by Disney in order to make sure enough people bought season 1? I mean, it follows the same logic as that online book by Stephen King, if enough people paid to read the chapters he would write the following ones... Blackmail, that is!

It sounds to me like simple avarice. If producing the first season on DVD isn't going to make you enough profit to justify releases of the subsequent seasons either WAIT for the demand to go up or RELEASE FEWER COPIES. It's not that difficult, Disney. You DON'T just refuse to release the second season because they didn't sale enough copies of the first.

Also, the fact that Gargoyles still airs on the family channel might have something to do with it. If you really want to sell the DVDs, take the show off the air for a while.

That annoyed me that they didn't have the pilot episodes with Ducktales. Hopefully they get the other episodes out. If not, I'll be unhappy.

Yes, I think that the studios should release entire series on DVD, not do this "test market" a season to see how it goes. I'm thinking that CBS won't get around to releasing the rest of the 60's western "Have Gun Will Travel" They have seasons 1-3, but made no announcements on 4-6. I really want this one to be finished, but not sure it will be. So they should finish Gargoyles, but it won't be the first time someone didn't finish a series. Sad but true.

Actually, the problem is the opposite--I can't find the sets anywhere except Amazon (where sales, while not spectaular, have been consistantly good, as have sold-out prints of the recent Gargoyles comics). I don't see them in stores. If they want them to sell, they need to put out more copies and advertise them. And if they took the show off the air (where it is edited, unlike the DVDs, by the way), then never released the last set, then there would be a problem. Anyone who spreads the word at conventions and other forums they visit, the help would be appreciated.

Bah, Disney. Internet purchases usually aren't impulse buys; DVD box sets usually are. They should know that. Stuff like this sells better on the shelf.

Blasted corporate greed. I understand needing to make a profit, but would it honestly kill Disney to make a little less and get the whole series out there?

I think that it would make them a little more, because the last set would make more people buy the first two. I mean, I'd fully understand if fans were unreasonably asking Disney to make another season or somesuch. But to release the DVDs of existing episodes? That's not asking much. For all interested parties, there's a big attempt over at Toonzone to change things. I really do think that we could see the final release if we fight har enough.
