Ghosting on the PAL DVD of ORIGINAL 1977 Star Wars

I live in the UK, and am very glad to finally own the ORIGINAL version of Star Wars on DVD, but have noticed ghosting in many parts of the film. For instance when Han says "Get back to the ship!" and starts running after the Stormtroopers, there is excessive ghosting. I have checked the DVD on at least 3 high-end quality TV's. I know the quality is not suppose to be great because it's from a 1993 Laserdisc and is also non-anamorphic, but I can live with that because I found the overall quality to be completly acceptable and far superior to any of my VHS editions, the ghosting is the only thing that I have found annoying to be honest. My main TV is a 50" Sony LCD.

Is this also present on the US disc?... I just would like to know because at the moment I have a theory that it may be a NTSC to PAL conversation problem.

Thanks!

You are likely not imagining things--its a by-product of the DVNR applied to the 1993 Laserdisk, which eradicated fine detail and led to ghosting in some shots.

Yes the DVNR is excessively bad on these discs.
