2006 OT DVD: Got mine!

 (Edited)

Imagine my amazement when I returned home from work yesterday to find that my OUT DVDs had been delivered from play.com that morning, at the moment I’m only about half way through ESB, but so far I would say that the quality is at least as good [if not better!] as all of the LD transfers that I’ve seen to date. I agree with the majority of you that yes it would have been nice to have seen them cleaned up and given the status they deserve, instead of being bundled as a bonus with a re-release of the 2004 SE, but you can’t have everything and for the time being I’m quite happy to have an official copy on DVD.

Now all I need to do is decipher wmgan’s instructions for producing a set in anamorphic widescreen

Congratulations! And I'm very glad they're not a total disappointment!

Did you get all three, then?

From Amazon.com:

Items shipped on September 8, 2006:
Delivery estimate: September 20, 2006 - September 25, 2006

That's the free shipping. Guess I'll have to listen to Yoda and Obi-Wan and be patient...

Yes all three, and one of the things I am most impressed with is the DVD menus; especially ESB. One thing I can't understand though is why they didn't release a boxset, but something tells me this won't be the last we'll see of the OUT; especially not with Blu-Ray and HD-DVD just around the corner!

I got the Star Wars 2-discer from Play.com Saturday morning too £13.99 (with free postage ~ Play.com has always been quicker than Amazon in my experience, but of course Playusa.com is more expensive than Amazon.com)

Ordered the pizza, sat down and watched the "bonus disc" (i'm not interested in watching the other disc, can't bear the needless CGI changes). I was actually nervous about watching it ~ would it look like shite?

Well, I'm with MST on this one ~ the quality was actually better than i'd expected. Okay, some blurring/ghosting/artifacting, but it was actually a pleasure to see some film grain & a good colour grade ~ truer to what i saw on the big screen than the over-saturated nonsense on the 2004 discs.

So, i went ahead and ordered ESB & ROTJ now ~ looks like another pizza evening this week...........

I've only got a 28inch widescreen TV, no 5.1, so to me the picture & the sound were pretty damn good. I got the goosebumps all over again when the Falcon is dragged in by the tractor beam, and that score made my puny 2.0 speakers shake, rattle & roll.

Ho ho ho Mr Lucas, i do believe these discs are gonna outsell your revised versions ~ cos we all know it's disc 2 that people are watching/reviewing/talking about!

Glad to hear the picture sounds better than everyone was expecting! I'm looking forward to picking mine up tomorrow now
I was going to order from play.com, but I wasnt sure they'd send them in time for release day, or send them out on release day (thus getting to me by the end of the week...)

So its a quick trip round HMV, Virgin, Smiths and Woolies tomorrow morning. And then all damn day at work b4 I can watch them. Poo.

Does anyone know if the Best Buy tin contains the 3 keepcases, or some other kind of storage method? Also, is there a choice of tins- Pan & Scan or Widescreen?

How's the audio for the disk? Any C-3PO explaining the tractor beam? Any "close the blast doors!" in there?

at times the GOUT seems to have as much detail as the so called cleaned-up SE's in some of those shots.

Those lines weren't on the 93/95 LDs, so they won't be on the DVDs.

I see that the average bitrates were nearly identical for the OOT vs SE.

However, the non-anamorphic picture of the original version is a real let down and I’m convinced it’s been a deliberate move to leave scope to sell us the anamorphic version rumoured for release next year.

Interesting. I know there are rumors about the '07 boxed set, but now there are rumors about an anamorphic OUT too? I imagine the reviewer is simply referring to the same rumor, but hey, you never know...

I hope so, but that just seems to be too good to be true.
