My store just got the new DVDs

I work at Hollywood Video and my store got about half a dozen copies of each Star Wars DVD for 20 bucks a pop. I honestly didn't think we would get them for some reason. Although even though we have them now my manager won't let me buy them until tuesday when they are released. Ah well, at least I got em saved. As much as I am displeased with it not being in anamorphic widescreen, I realized I still want them mostly because I know no one on this site will give away bootlegs of any attempt of a "anamorphic fix" of the new dvds, which i really want. Although I read that at least someone will put up instructions on how to do it IF YOU OWN THE NEW DVDS. And since I have a 20 percent discount working at Hollywood Video, that means they will only be 15 bucks each for me, which isn't bad at all. So it is worth it I guess for me.

meh, they'll retail around US$16 here... that's cheap enough for me.

They also look noticably better than bootlegs, but they could still look a helluva lot better than that.

Careful, boris. One might think you are bashing, and that just wouldn't be you. (j/k - welcome to the club )

I will say this is one shot where I appreciate the enhanced brightness and color.

All the other '04 changes are too sharp and videogame-ish. Especially....

wow some of you I think need to take chill pills. The changes there for ROTJ are not that bad, I just really hate the spirit change at the end with Hayden. He looks like a child molester or something with that look on his face! If I was hayden, I would have refused to do that shot!

Everything is the same, expect Boba's movement is different by half a hair, like a frame's difference. Was this shot recomposited?

yes - it was recomposited due to Fett being half-missing. What amuses me to great extent is the amount of shots that have been recomposited - which to my mind obviously means they have all the original film elements. Which they deny strenuously.

Daft buggers.

I cant name another company that actually tries to piss off its most loyal fanbase.......

possibly Disney, or more accurately, the Eisner company, the way they edit their classics and pass it off as the "Original theatrical version"
i.e. Fantasia and Lion King

A lot (if not all) of the FX shots were recomposited. It's no secret that GL kept all of the film elements, they made a very big deal out of that when the SEs came out in 1997. I watched a documentary or 2 that talked about how most film-makers from that era didn't keep the separate film elements, and just kept the finished composites. The reason that they were able to go back and re-composite everything for the SEs was because GL had made sure not to discard the separate film elements, which was unusual at the time (and very smart, on his part).

So, all of this crap about there not being suitable material for new OOT transfers is just that - crap.

at least if thos comparison shots from the Original version are from the "Bonus disc" we'll be able to see Sebastian Shaw clearly

My DVD's have already been shipped. I'm sure they'll be here on Tuesday.

Although I loved how cleaned up the 2004 movies looked I was disapointed at how blue everything was. I mean, the snow, the Falcon engines, everything. It didn't look so much "crisp" as it did "CGI."

You know, the composite of Boba flying across the frame looks worse for 2004. The contrast is much more mismatched. What's really funny is the Shaw/Hayden comparison, specifically the frame they used. Hayden was inserted using extra RotS footage, he didn't even know about it which really shows. It's almost as if whoever did the comparison really wanted to make the original scene look better...

Take back the trilogy. Execute Order '77

well that would explain it. He was probably looking at Padme' in that shot which is why he looks like he wants to hump something, except that doesn't really work for the ghost scene at the end of ROTJ now does it?

Yeah I was going to say that shaddow is awful... in fact, both are. Look at the other one... the shaddow is bigger then the ship! Now how can that be?

It's amazing the shit that Lucas worries about...fuckin' shadows , and bullshit background details so minute that nobody noticed them to begin with. That shit he loses sleep over, yet having an entire prequel trilogy without anything resembling a story, a script, drama, or human emotion is what he passes off as his artistic vision. Vision my ass!

Fuck who knows what goes through his mind! "I've always wanted to have Luke not scream when he jumps off in ESB... that's why I changed it, back". Or "hey I've always wondered why Han didn't fall off in this scene... and then I remembered, I dropped a page of the script that read "Han wastes time and ties ropes to his feet first".

Why on Earth Chewbacca still needs to hold is a mystery known only to Lucas.
