Hey all, first time poster. Ive been reading through these forums and think it is great what all of you are doing to preserve and re-release films how they should have been.

This forum has got me wondering if anyone has undertaken re-editing any of Miramaxe's horrendous US releases of Jet Li's films or any of the other fantastic kung fu films they have purchased the release rights to?

You can read more of Miramaxes butcher jobs here:
An Open Letter to Miramax

Appeal to Disney for Respectful Treatment of Asian films

Three films that deserve some special treatment in my opinion are Fist of Legend, Drunken Master 2 and the Once Upon A Time In China trilogy. These films have been edited, re-scored and re-dubbed into English. The miramax versions are terrible. The original soundtracks are beautifully done and the original language is essential (needless to say). The truth is, some pretty fantastic versions could be made using Miramaxe's prints (they did manage to obtain some very nice prints for mastering) and other releases original language tracks, soundtracks, subtitles, and missing scenes.

Has anyone undertaken a project like this for 'any' kung fu epic?

Don't even bother with Columbia TriStar's version of the OUATIC Trilogy. Go for the IVL/Fortune Star or the Joy Sales/Fortune Star (both are the same but from different distributors and the IVL is Region 0 NTSC while the Joy Sales is Region 3 NTSC) boxset. You can find it for a grand low price at play-asia.com, DDDHouse and/or sensasian.com

Want the original versions of alot of Jet Li's films? (These are all legitimate releases and NOT bootlegs!)
Fong Sai Yuk. (US cut version: The Legend)
Fong Sai Yuk II (US cut version: The Legend 2)
High Risk (US cut version: Meltdown)
Hitman (US cut version: Contract Killer)
Danny the Dog (US cut version: Unleashed)
My Father is a Hero (US cut version: The Enforcer)
Swordsman II (US cut version: The Legend Of The Swordsman)
The Tai Chi Master (US cut version: Twin Warriors)

Want the original versions of Jackie Chan's films?
Project A Series Boxset (US cut version: Project A and Project A 2) <-I own this.
Who Am I? (US cut version: Who Am I) <-I own this.
Twin Dragons (US cut version: Twin Dragons) <-I own this.
Drunken Master (US cut version: Drunken Master)
Gorgeous (US cut version: Gorgeous)
The Accidental Spy (US cut version: The Accidental Spy)
Dragon Lord (US cut version: Dragon Lord)

So quit your complaining for Miramax and look for alternatives. I did. Don't rely solely on U.S. distributors for HONG KONG films. I'm not going to assist on Police Story III: Supercop though since it's featured in a boxset containing the first three Police Story films. Quite pricey if you're only interested in the third film, if you know what I mean.
