When GL dies, if this forum is still kicking, it will be chaos. I predict 20 topics about his death.
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. I predict a day of no posting and propose simply mourning and coping in the form of rediculously somber viewing of the OT and a holiday each year after.

Same goes for Hammill, Ford, and Fisher.

But on topic.....every time I heard his name or voice I thought of the "Stick it up 'is butt-ole!" joke from South Park...or....Family Guy....or whatever it was on (the one with Russell Crowe fighting' 'round the world maybe?)

Hey look, a bear!

Steve's death is an honerable one. His life's work was a noble cause and he went out like a hero (not like a punk, like choking on a ham bone or something).

And everyone is caught up in it because we actually give a rats ass about his life. Unlike some piss-ant movie star dieing of a cocaine overdose, or some blue blood royalty yuppie falling off his polo horse, or some lame singer drinking himself to death, or some fortune hieress killed in a car crash, or some worthless politician dieing of lung cancer. Who gives a fuck?

But Steve. Steve made you care about what he did. He was a bridge between our world and the animal kingdom. And even if we all thought he was nuts, we still loved him for it. And now he is gone, and the world is a little bit sadder.

...I think he meant George Lucas.... Just a hunch.

Anyway, I my heart definitely goes out to his wife and kids. It's the worst case scenario that you hope never happens, and expect it not to happen because, well, Steve was GOOD at what he did. Then his luck just runs out and two kids suddenly don't have a father.

Also, he died at the peak of his popularity (although he wasn't thaaaat popular), doing something for his show, and he died in a absolutely bizarre manner. His death is probably the most bizarre one I've seen in my lifetime.

How do you figure? He made his own movie, you know. How many naturists can say that?

If you went and ask someone on the street - before his death - who was Steve Irwin, I predict about 10%, maybe less, would be able to answer. Maybe if you said "the australian croc hunter" you would get 25%. If you asked them who is Tom Cruise or Oprah, you would get 95%.

I thought he was popular like...a few years ago but not anymore. Except for the whole baby thing, I hadn't heard his name in years.

Either way, RIP

EVERYONE knew who the "Croc Hunter" was. He's been parodied so many times from SNL to South Park to Nickelodeon's Fairly Odd Parents.

They might not have known his name or just what the heck he was doing, but they knew who he was. And it's been 3 days now and it's still on the news and is still on the top search list at CNN.com.

Hot-damn, it's official - I am more of a comic book nerd than I am a Star Wars nerd. So much so that I forgot one of the most commonly used acronyms on here...but we can thank GL for that

That is because people are searching for his death's video.

Actually I would think you would easily get 100% if you asked who Tom Cruise was, and while they might not have known the name Steve Irwin, they would have known of the crocodile hunter, and if you showed them a picture they would be able to recongnise his face. Definitly more than 25%, I would say 97 - 99%.

That's very sad indeed. He'll be missed.

Australians have now lost two icons in the same week. Peter Brock, a great Australian race car driver died in a car crash during a rally race in Western Australia two days ago. Might not be so well known to you guys, but now Australians mourn the death of two heroes.

Yes. Yes it does.

At this moment, Steve Irwin is fighting a rabid, radioactive, mile high, crocodile in heaven.

Every morning, Steve Irwin would burst out of the anaconda that ate him the previous night, tie it in a knot, and kill every single stingray in a 500-foot radius.

Steve once made a croc's blood run so cold, it froze solid.

Steve Irwin defeated Chuck Norris. With is baby in his arms.

Steve Irwin did not use animal calls. Animals used Steve Irwin calls.

Steve Irwin could make crocodile skin boots out of Chihuahuas.

Steve Irwin once wrestled a dragon into submission. Both is arms were broken at the time.

The alternate ending to the movie "Anaconda" is Steve jumping in 4 minutes into the movie and knocking the snake out in 5 seconds.

Before his death, over here, we could only watch Steve Irwin on cable. Now, due to his post-morten popularity, his movie was shown yesterday on a tv network, and his croc hunter series will be broadcast starting next week on a public tv network. So he is waaay more popular now than he was when he was still alive...

I belive not even when the Pope died and regenerated into the 10th Doctor we had a thread that lasted that long!
