Poll: Do You Think the OUT will be Released Again in '07? — Page 2

Because if the OOT is just released again in the 30th ann. set next year I will be very mad, and I will be getting that set irregardless because I know they are going to be fixing up some other things as well. So what I am going to do, and what I suggest others do, is to hold off on this release, (unless you know you would never get the 30th ann. set) and next year when the 30th ann. set comes out, and if it has the OOT as part of it, in any capacity, then you've saved money. If it doesn't happen to have it, you will still be able to buy it as used off of amazon or ebay. Used things on amazon are normally very cheap, and not even always used.

But if this does turn out to be truly limited, then used items will end up being pretty expensive by then.

I readily admit that I keep going back and forth...one day I am about 90% for buying it, another day I am 90% for NOT buying it because I do feel something better is probably in the works. If the OUT got this far (which is really leaps and bounds when you stop and think about how against it Lucas appears to be), odds are it is going to get farther. Movie studios and companies are not doing the business they once did, and with Lucas being as greedy as he is and needing the $ to fund future projects, I HIGHLY doubt he is going to let any possible money maker slide by...

I think I am going to wait until all the reviews are in and then rent them so I can see how they look on my 16X9 TV. But ask me again tomorrow and I will probably tell you I am getting them regardless LOL

I'm thinking the OUT won't be included in the '07 set. It'll probably be touted as Lucas' definitive visions complete with CG Yoda in Episode I and new touch ups and alterations to the other films. One can only hope they'll take the time to correct some of the color timing, lightsaber, and audio errors. So if these'll be the definitive versions, he probably won't include the OUT. I'm actually hoping this set is completely new - new versions of the films with never-before-seen extras and none of the old ones. This way I'll be able to add them to my collection without paying for the same stuff I already own.

So '07 will be the big SW DVD release. I'm thinking they'll do Special Editions of the Indy films and maybe even Young Indy DVDs for '08 to tie-in with Indy 4 if it does get made. So if they don't have anything else for '09, maybe they'll do proper releases of the OUT for '09 where the untouched films are the main feature. Then they can give us new anamorphic and cleaned up transfers, original audio options, selectable crawl, and some of the older vintage material like the making of documentaries and radio dramas. If we call them out on their previous comments, they can cite unexpected demand by fans as a reason for the release. Heck, they can even release the Holiday Special for the hell of it. All wishful thinking, but who knows? Maybe by then Lucas' heart will have grown three sizes.

yeah i just did change my mind pretty fast. This here is my latest opinoin on the matter, although since I am such a Star Wars nut it will be hard not to buy these when i see them in the store, but I think I will be able to resist. Also regardless and irregardless are words. Unless my grammer book in hs was lying to me.

I voted No. I'm not saying I don't think the OOT will be gone forever after this release (although I'm thinking it pretty strongly at the moment), but I really don't think it will be in the boxset in any way, shape, or form. Not that I really care, since I wouldn't waste my money on it even if there was a solid gold DVD of the OOT in it. I mean, that would just jack the price up. ^_~

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

I'd say that yes we will see them again, but it'll be a long wait.

I'd say your grammar book and your teachers were lying to you. My English teachers would regularly scold people for using that word. Check out this link at dictionary.com for more info:

Back on topic. Something tells me we'll see them again, but I really don't care. They'll probably show up in some uber expensive huge box set, so we'll be paying $150+ just to get the originals in anamorphic widescreen. And it won't be a remastered animorphic transfer. They'll probably just scale it and release it that way. By that time though, I wonder how many people will really care about having "yet another version of Star Wars".

I voted no.

In 07 George will be too busy promoting the newer crap he's made. At best we'll get "bonus feature" versions again. A few years after that though, for no reason other than added profits, I'd think he'll release the original theatrical cuts in an upgraded home release.

So just so I have this straight (I've never seen it) "Empire of Dreams" shows the original crawl and the shots of the OUT throughout appear to be anamorphic? I just watched a video of the opening crawl from EOD and I noticed one distinct difference btwn. that and the video I just saw of the 09/12 release: the EOD letteirng is more of an orange color, and 09/12 is very much yellow compared to that. This would indicate to me that there was some cleaning/touch up/whatever done to the footage shown on EOD.

Yeah, I feel that something is in the works for the OUT for sure...

And does anyone else sort of feel like Lucas is the Emperor, and there are people in his company that are the Rebels, leaking footage to us in various ways to give us a heads up that there is something planned...a code of sorts...

"Many LFL employees died to give us this cleaned up, anamorphic OUT..."

I think there will be another OUT release sometime in the future, but not as early as '07. And if either Hi-Def format becomes popular, not on plain ol' DVD either.

Maybe I'm wrong. I'll take my chances with the big $20 outlay of hard-earned moola. (I'm only buying Star Wars, as it's the only one different in any respect from the laserdiscs I already own.)

I voted the first option. Lucas is hard headed, but I think he may break over time. May. He seems completely unpredictible to me, so it's hard to really know.

For the next ten years or so, Lucasfilm's tentpole releases will consist of the theatrical 3D saga, possible home releases of that (if it's doable), the TV show, and HD releases of the Special Special Special Edition. After that, maybe we'll get the OUT in anamorphic widescreen (standard definition).

Careful what you say. Lucas is such a smart marketer that you never know.

Am I the only one here who doesn't want an altered 5.1 soundtrack?

I want a 5.1 soundtrack taken from the original sixt-track stereo mix and the original stereo and mono mixes.

I don't want it either. I want the original mixes in their 1.0, 2.0, and 4.1 glory =]

Ok, but I also want a good 5.1 mix. They could all be included.

I think this whole "bonus material" crap is a test, and the way Lynne Hale's response is so carefully worded ("The 1993 Laserdisc masters represented the best source for providing the original versions as DVD bonus material"), leads me to believe that they will have new transfers done of the OOT as non-bonus material .

These DVDs will sell very well, and George Lucas is too greedy not to cash-in on selling us the OOT all over again, and he can't do that without new anamorphic transfers. His cash-cow is running out of milk and he doesn't have a whole hell of a lot left to sell us.

That is what I was hoping too, but it just seems too good to be true. If Lucas put a remastered OOT in the high-priced boxed set, then that would make perfect sense, but I just don't want to get my hopes up and have them crushed. maye the reason that they don't want to restore them is because they already have? I kid, I kid. But the only link to go is the 30th anniversary comment on SW.com which says that the archives are still being searched.

We want you to be aware that we have no plans – now or in the future – to restore the earlier versions.

That's pretty unequivocal.

Lucas: "The OOT will never be released on DVD.

Lucas: None of the films will be releaed on DVD until the saga is finished.
\

1995: "One last time."

Indeed. Like those statements were?

What it all comes down to is this: Lucas has seen that there is demand for the OOT, and has heard the outcry for a restoration. He has seen the excitement for the Blade Runner and Superman boxed sets coming up and the sales of the Alien Quadrilogy (that's not a word), Apocalyspe Now set, and the Indiana Jones and E.T. The Extraterrestrial boxed sets. Here's what it comes down to: what is stronger? His ego or his desire to make money?

Mike!! Where the hell have you been?! Turn your damn PMs on!!

On topic: None of the three answers fit my thinking. The OOT will be released again. I don't know when. The September Discs may well be included in the saga boxed set but then they might not. A new transfer may be included. Or not. All I do know is that I don't want these transfers. At all. Thank you very much.

I totally agree, Mike O, and everything Lucas says goes in one ear and right out the other with me. I am this way because of his track record and how many times I've heard "never" or "won't be" yet still saw it. And if anyone doubts his flip-flopping, just take a look at his movies and the way they are made, and how many times he's gone back and forth in them with each release and re-release....

Also, he seems to take a lot of advice from Spielberg and just had him involved in EP III. I have a feeling he will be able to talk some sense into him re: proper OUT versions and how much $ he could make off of that (if he hasn't already). LFL is a corporation after all and Lucas is the head, and we all know that when it comes to $, they will go back on their words in a heartbeat and then try to fool the people into thinking that was the plan all along.

And I guess I should've included an option for "Yes, but not in '07" (or something close). Oh well.

No, I know LFL go back on their word, but it all depends what state the OOT is in, as said I just cant see him spending the big bucks restoring something he doesnt like, so if the OOT is in a good state, maybe then a half decent transfer will be available but it will not be for a while, if ever, the only way I honestly think it will ever been seen again is if SE sales decline and they need a product to slap on with the SE, like this release to sell another set of DVDs or whatever, even then it may not restored to industry standards.....

I can picture a sort of half-ass presentation of the originals to shut us up. The 2007 versions could include a seamless branching option, buried in the special features, to watch each movie with the original versions of the "main" special edition offenders. Like: Star Wars=watch with original Death Star battle and Original Mos Eisley/Cantina. Empire=watch with original Emperor, Wampa, Cloud City hallways. Jedi=watch with original Lapti Nek, sarlaac fight, and ending. That should be able to fit on the disc, since each movie would only need like 3-5 branching points, with about 20 minutes "extra" running time added to Star Wars. But, the cartoon colors and buried music would still be with us.

I said yes because I do believe that Fox will force Lucas to do a good transfer of the OOT on there, or they won't release it. If the 9.12 release doesn't sell, Lucas will see it as people don't want the OOT, but Fox will see it as Lucas being an idiot, and will make him do the anamorphic transfers. I think we can expect nice looking OOT in 2007. In which case, I gladly get the set.

I'm already curious to see the Star Wars 4.0 on the new DVD's, and the bonus material. But I just don't the prequel trilogy again, which is why I almost wouldn't buy the set even if it had good versions of the OOT. Just kidding, I'd still get it, sell my prequel DVD's I currently own, and just keep the new ones in the set, maybe watched once or twice.

I'd buy the entire "saga" set if it contained the fully restored anamorphic OOT. Then I'd take those three discs out of the original packaging, put them in the three empty slots of my '06 Best Buy tin (vacated from throwing away the Special Edition discs), then pitch the rest of the saga set as well. Problem solved.

What I'm wondering is why LFL kept banging on about a restoration. All that people were asking for were anmorphic discs. Of course, if the transfer hadn't quite been up to scratch, I'd have been unhappy, but I'd have still bought it and not boycotted future Lucasfilm products. We now want the restoration after they've mentioned it . I've never understood why they don't just restore the OOT, transfer it, then make a dupe and ad the SE stuff to that print and transfer that. Then everyboy would be happy. This all really makes sense; test the waters with a cheap release if you're not sure there's a market right before the big boxed set comes out, then do it for the boxed set to make people buy it again, etc. But I just don't know if logic can apply to LFL. They need some vulcans.

IMO, that is exactly what they are doing, and why they are being so careful with the wording in all of their ads.

IMO Lucas had to be shown this was going to sell before he would give the go ahead to dump some money into it. I feel he is getting all the proof he needs and we WILL see it again, and very soon.
