So, this is how the DVDs are going to look... — Page 11

I was sorta hoping that the bonus discs were going to be noticeably inferiour to the fan edits, which would then hopefully force Luca($h)s into making a proper anamorphically restored OOT set.

I've not seen the DVDs, but there is quite a bit of wobble on the LDs. When I overlayed the EoD scene (for eros: Empire of Dreams segment showing the opening crawl) with my generated crawl, the smoothness really stood out in contrast (though again, I prefered the "wobble". Much more film-like.)
Yeah, I mean, I watch the LDs a lot, and the "wobble" was never noticeable to me. That's what film looks like when it's run through a projector.
Also, the DC and Faces LDs were relatively free from film artifacts. Maybe these DVDs were made from pre-video noise reduction masters then? (unless we're talking about artifacts introduced by the DVD compression).

I was trying to do the menus as well, but I'm not a ripping guru and couldn't figure out how to get SimpleDivX to combine all of the vobs into one file. I recombined them with vobedit and tried again, but it still didn't work. It just encoded the first bit of menu animation and left the rest off...

Oh, I see!
Mielr: Yeah, exactly, it looks like it was run through a projector. Why would it appear this way on a DVD, though? Did they actually run it through a projector to put it on DVD?!? LOL

I believe that the majority of film-sourced DVDs on the market today are done this way, therefore you'll see "wobble" on any of them (except for films that had frame-by-frame scanning done, like the SW trilogy SEs, The Wizard of OZ, Citizen Kane etc.)
I've noticed quite a bit of film wobble on my 25th Anniversary DVD of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, for example.

It's funny. When I showed my first transfer to Laserman, he commented on how visible the video drop-outs were on my video, and attributed it to my LD player. When we looked at the same transfer from the X0, these were even worse, which meant the drop-outs and such were on the LD transfer, itself . Better players tend to bring out these errors, which means such errors will be even more pronounced on the DVDs.
Of course, had LFL bothered to do even a minimal level of correction, these wouldn't be a problem. In some of our X0 experiments, we've been able to minimize such errors quite easily with freeware. Lucas can say what he wants about using the latest technology, but he's about to be surpassed...and in a big way.
"Why would it appear this way on a DVD, though? Did they actually run it through a projector to put it on DVD?!? LOL"
Pretty much, yeah. Keep in mind, this transfer was made 10 YEARS AGO . It used to be state of the art, which is why it's being put to shame right out of the gate.

I like the shake though, it gives it a film quality which I love *puts love emotion here*, I jsut wish it was a proper transfer
I agree, the shake gives the film atmosphere. Also, I like the little pieces of grit here and there, because it is something you don't see in movies any more. But the OOT has that, and I am glad that I can get a piece of film history that will last longer than my VHS's will.

Well this adds one more moneky wrench into things for me and now I have to see what will happen: I just found out that I CANNOT zoom in on my picture with my TV due to my setup. I just checked the manual and it clearly states that the only settings that can be used when the DVD player is hooked up via component (which mine is) are "Wide" and "4:3" (in addition to those options I have "Panorama", "Zoom1" and "Zoom2"; I was planning on using "Zoom1" to fill the screen more if need be).
Now I am DYING to see what happens when I pop these DVDs in! It seems rather silly for me to not use my component setup just to watch SW, zoom in and get an even crappier picture...
FYI I have a Samsung DLP (16X9 of course) and a DVD player that lets you choose a 16X9 option, so maybe this won't be that big of a deal...maybe my DVD and/or TV will scale the picture as best it can?!?

I don't like dirrty grit but I love marks that were always in the film. Like whats on a rough homemade 16mm film or something like that.

So...dual layered or single layer?
Neil
Dual Layered. At least they didn't skimp on that. Here are my screencaps of Empire, for reference with some other edits.. Top is offical DVD, middle is Editdroid, and last is Dr M's rcode of Moth3r's.
And to see just how much blue we do have in the LDs which to me were fine levels:
