Yeah, I mean, I watch the LDs a lot, and the "wobble" was never noticeable to me. That's what film looks like when it's run through a projector.
Also, the DC and Faces LDs were relatively free from film artifacts. Maybe these DVDs were made from pre-video noise reduction masters then? (unless we're talking about artifacts introduced by the DVD compression).
