What exactly do you want to do for the DS schematic? rotating 3D wireframe as in Jedi and AotC, or a red wireframe scematic on the viewscreen? Interior with the reactor core, or just surface detail? It's not complicated to produce the assets, and I too think the SciFi 3D meshes should be adequate for your purposes here (just either render as wireframe, or use a wireframe material if you'll be working in Max, you can either produce the colour and glow in Max at render time, or, as I prefer to do, do it all in post in Vegas...just remember to include an alpha channel when you render).

I'm just after a transparent schematic with surface detail. I've never attempted using any 3D software but i'm gonna give it a go.
A quick update: I've scrapped the hyperspace cockpit scene that i posted the pic for. I just can't get the mattes to look good enough. I'm inserting an effects shot of the falcon leaving hyperspace instead. maybe when i have more knowledge of effects work i'll reinsert it, but for now its not going to be included.
I've also downloaded one of the deaths star models on 3d scifi and opened it up in 3DS max and I'm completely lost. i don't even know where to start. this is what i really want to recreate for the rebel briefing scene:

I just need a transparent animation to overlay on the scene.I really don't think i can do this on my own so any hep will be greatly appreciated
