Exactly. My wife (who is American) didn't even know that the statue was a gift from the French. I thought it was common knowledge (and I am English).


That's crazy. Although we found out about the Abu Grahib prisoner abuse/torture scandal in Australia about a year before I saw it on American TV for their first time! Not really related, but it's crazy how some of the things we take forgranted as common knowledge aren't always common to the countries involved...

Case in point, I just saw footage of Steve Irwin misspelling 'G'day' on an autograph (he wrote 'Gidday')!
