For those familiar with japanese culture, the mere fact that we see Tom Cruise as an american fighting on the side of the shogunates during the Meiji Restorarion is absolutely bizarre.

I am familiar with Japanese culture, and I saw it with my Japanese family at least twice and we all loved it. I was opposed to the idea when I saw the trailer, but I think it really highlights something about Japan even today.

The first one was right - nah, I was extremely put off by the fact that they used a Chinese actress to play the Japanese main character...
