Microwave? Interesting exsertion.

I have the Full-Screen editions of the 2004 DVD ... Received them for my birthday. But I am not fond of Full-Screen. There is no defending it anymore. And even moreso, It is time to think about the 9/12/2006 editions ... time to consider.

Count me in.

I wasn't planning on buying the movies at all for a while, but then I came to the conclusion after much pondering of the history and facts of the last decade, and decided Lucas has proven that he can't be trusted, so I'm buying them after all and sending him back the SEs.
I TOTALLY agree re: Lucas not being trusted! I think we will see the OUT again, but it won't be for quite some time and on the next popular format....I've waited long enough! I'll take non-anamorphic widesceen DVD over nothing anyday. My Faces WS VHS are not worn out yet but getting there, and I'd like to preserve them as best as I can.

LOL!

You know, I was so pissed off at Lucas for all of this, but, you know, I wonder if sending the SEs back to Lucas would really accomplish our goal. I mean, if all we really want is the OUT on DVD, is insulting his preference for the SEs really going to accomplish anything but make us his enemies? Just thinking out loud.

Nah, never mind. He threw the gauntlet down when he made that idiotic statement for that MTV.com article about how this release of the SEs w/the OUT as mere bonus material would PROVE "...whether they really wanted the original or whether they wanted the improved [sic] versions".

Well if the screen shots in the other thread are any indication, I think Lucas' plan backfired. I imagine the reviews will say something like, 'Other than the fact that these are not anamorphic, the picture quality is fine and more than suitable if you are looking to watch the OUT once again...". Those who didn't buy and are waiting for the reviews will probably do so then. This will push the sales up...and Lucas will see first hand that people want the OUT.

Guys, the more I ponder this the more I really think sending them back is a bad, bad idea and won't accomplish a thing. Instead, donate them to a charity or something and take a picture of it (or better yet, get some of your friends together to do the same and see if the local media will do a story about it; send the transcripts to George). Write a short letter to Lucas telling him why you got rid of it and WHY (the most important part) you felt the need to buy the SW movies yet again. This will prove to George that:

1. You bought the set strictly for the OUT.
2. You are a classy bunch of people, and taking a bad situation and making it good.

Yes, there is the argument of, "Well you are giving George what he wants and making the SE version more widespread." But you are GIVING it away so he didn't make a dime off what could've been another sale. If 1000 people do that, that is 1000 SE discs he didn't sell!

I think that sending the SEs back would be an interesting idea, but we must remember to be respectful. As angry as we are, we do not want to piss Lucas off. We also need to get a lot of people involved. As small message attached to the disc would be a good idea, preferably one which make our feelings clear respectfully.

"We want you to be aware that we have no plans-now or in the future-to restore the earlier versions."

Then, unfortunately, we want you to be aware that we have no plans, now or in the future, to purchase any future Lucasfilm products ever again until a restoration of the originals is made available. Also, put in something respectful about how you consider the SEs inferior and don't want them.

This will push the sales up...and Lucas will see first hand that people want the OUT.

Let's hope so. See, here's the thing. Lucas may be able to say that people bought this release for the SEs and not the OOT, although that would be incredibly stupid and contractic the statement that he made on the MTV interview. But he CANNOT SAY that he released the OOT and no one wanted it. He can't. Not now that sales figure are in. As the disc's preorders have really gone up to good, if not quite great (their current Amazon position indicates that

“What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one.”

I would like to chime in here on the idea of donating the SE disks to wherever.

I'd rather shitcan the pieces of shit. I hate the SEs. Most people here do too. Why should we give them to some charity so people will watch them and then prefer those versions to the original?!?!?!

Screw that....don't send 'em back....don't donate them. Just throw the damn things out!!! Lucas wants to bury the OOT so everyone prefers the SEs, so I say we do the opposite. Bury the SEs, so everyone prefers the originals!!!

The hell with that donating crap....no way would I taint someone's mind with that SE garbage!!!

I agree with you that I wouldn't want anyone to watch the SEs, but I think just throwing them out is a waste. If you're going to dispose of them- you might as well send them to GL and maybe there would be a slight chance that he'd receive them. Putting them into a landfill won't accomplish anything.

BTW, the OOT's current Amazon.com rankings are: 24, 32 and 35 (SW, ESB and ROTJ respectively).

Agreed. I'm all for doing things for charity but I wouldn't wish the SEs upon anybody. I hate those movies. If other people like 'em, more power to them, but I'm certainly not going to encourage any human alive to watch them. Sending them back to Lucas or throwing them in the trash is where they belong. They are an insult to the original films.
Also, as nice as it would be for this to be publisized and for more people to be informed about it, I don't care, nor do I have delusions as to the importance of it. I know my fandom is a niche, I see it nearly every day. A lot of it has to do with Lucas destroying Star Wars' legacy, passage of time, and the cheapening of the films' memory in the pop culture. In the large scheme of things Star Wars doesn't matter. It matters to fans here and elsewhere, for entertainment and some emotional fulfillment. Star Wars USED to be special, and there are a few of us who felt what it was and have somehow been able to hold onto it. There are always new people being exposed to it, and some of them may "get it". For them, I think they are the lucky ones. Other than that I think Star Wars is over, Sorry to say. Okay, I'm a pessimist. But I stil love these movies with a passion.

Skye, I think you nailed it on the head, and I'm still up for sending the SE discs back to Lucas.

You know, each of us who would be doing this could check with our local paper to see if we could get a small article on our SE Send-back movement in the Entertainment section; then we could clip those articles and send them to Lucas; so we'd have a two-part mail attack.
