And by calling the Psychology and Psychiatry professions false. I quote Tom:

"There is no such thing as a chemical imbalance."

"When you talk about emotional, chemical imbalances in people, there is no science behind that."

"People go for help, but their lives don't get better because of those [psychiatric] drugs. They get worse. They feel numb and they're told that's a good thing. It's how you degrade a society -- by drugging the piss out of it."

Then by trying to publicly make Matt Lauer out to be a dipshit for believing in that whole medical farce of Psychiatry and Psychology:

"You don't know the history of psychiatry. I do." (This is from a High School Dropout?!?!?!?!)

Then by publicly bashing Brooke Shields for actually talking about postpartum depression with shit like:

"The thing that I'm saying about Brooke is that there's misinformation, okay. And she doesn't understand the history of psychiatry. She-- she doesn't understand in the same way that you don't understand it."

"Here is a woman - and I care about Brooke Shields because I think she is incredibly talented - (but) you look at where has her career gone?"

"Well, you look at people. Look - is she happy? Is she really happy?"

Tom has done much more to effect career suicide than just overselling his love with Katie. He calls the entire medical profession of helping people's screwed-up minds a crock, and anywhere, especially in Hollywood, that dog just won't hunt.

Cruise is a moron. Sure, some people take the drugs that don't need them, but those quotes are just ridiculous.

I loved Brooke Shields come back to all that - "I think Tom Cruise should stick to fighting aliens and let women who are dealing with post partum depression deal with it however they see fit."

Don't ever pick a fight with Brooke Shields, especially when Brooke is taller than you.

And don't alienate women when women make up a huge part of your fanbase.

Brooke Shields graduated from Princeton.

Tom Cruise graduated from middle school.

That's all anybody needs to know.

I think I've said it here before:

I believe that when Tom and Nicole broke up, that was the beginning of his mid-life crisis. Instead of a fancy sports car, he decided he wanted a 20-something girlfriend. He made 1 really good movie in Collateral and he thinks he's 25 and relevant in Hollywood again.

Maybe the grey hair scared him?

Yeah, I really liked that movie (even if it was basically 'Dances with Wolves' in Japan).

War does not make one great.

More John Ford that Kurosawa, and Cruise was his typical self, but Zwick's direction was excellent.

Yeah, I have to say, I loved The Last Samurai. It's so confusing watching it in Japan, though - you can never get the perfect combination of Japanese with English subtitles and English with Japanese subtitles (that is to say, it's impossible to satisfy both audiences at once...).

The Last Samurai as I recall, didn't garner as many awards or acclaim as Collateral. Not saying it was a bad movie by any means.

For those familiar with japanese culture, the mere fact that we see Tom Cruise as an american fighting on the side of the shogunates during the Meiji Restorarion is absolutely bizarre.
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

Collateral was a good Michael Mann film. Tom Cruise's involvement is merely incidental.

I am familiar with Japanese culture, and I saw it with my Japanese family at least twice and we all loved it. I was opposed to the idea when I saw the trailer, but I think it really highlights something about Japan even today.

Did you see the "Memoirs of Geisha" or "Memories of the Geisha' or whatever it was called?

From today's IMDB pipeline 8/31/06 -

Tom Cruise was allegedly sacked by Paramount over previous criticism of Brooke Shields' use of post-natal anti-depressants. Paula Fortunato, the wife of Paramount boss Sumner Redstone, was enraged when she heard Cruise's comments on live TV, and warned her 83-year-old husband that the star's Scientology-inspired tirade is offputting to female fans. Redstone said last week: "As much as we like him personally, we thought it was wrong to renew his deal. His recent conduct has not been acceptable to Paramount." The movie mogul originally hinted his decision was largely because of Cruise's bizarre antics on The Oprah Winfrey Show and Today. But insiders from Paramount's parent company Viacom claim Redstone's 43-year-old wife has great influence on the decisions of her husband. Viacom spokesman Carl Folta says, "It is true that Mrs. Redstone disagrees with Tom Cruise's views, but she and Mr. Redstone see every Paramount film."

Well, to me, it would be kinda like having a scientologist crazy Ken Watanabe playing a samurai turned soldier figting alongside americans on the civil war. Plus, japanese audiences have a distinct sense of what is considered bizarre.

Yah well paramount was a bitch, always had her claws in poor cruise. After his marriage, of course that harpy would dump him and take half his stuff. Geeze.
