I didn't even notice sitting ducks until LFL tried to explain it in the usual lame fashion.

Anakin, as i understand it, is derived from Anakim, a race of giants briefly mentioned in the old testament. I don't know that's the inspiration, i just assumed after i read about anakim in sunday school.

I'm sure I've heard the name Anakin in a non-star wars context.

Edit: Nope, looks like I'm wrong. I just checked a bunch of baby name websites and they all list Anakin as a name created by George Lucas. Apparently Lucas based it on the surname of his friend and fellow director Ken Annakin.
