All these extra-new-deleted-extended-blooper-scenes (or whatever) is all fine and dandy, but it honestly doesn't interest me that much.
Maybe it's hard for me to wrap my mind around it...
I'm looking forward to ANH and especially ROTJ! This movie needs help!

I have an idea of something you can add to make ANH seem more like part of the saga.
Why not add the tombstones in the Lar's yard into ANH in the same place? (Unless they're absent from ROTS. Do we see the same part?)

My stance on revising fan edits.

I'm going to look into that. At the moment i'm doing a lot of comparison checks with the PT & OT to help resolve some continuity & other issues because i want the whole saga to flow better than it does at the moment between the 2 trilogies.

I've just finished the first pass of the colour correction using the white balance filter in VirtualDub after sampling one frame. Its removed the blue cast completely but has left a slight red tone to the whites in some scenes, but after applying a small colour balance in premier, the colours are looking great. i still have to go scene by scene for colour fixing but using the Vdub filter has eliminated most of the work i was originally having to do.

One thing that i have almost fixed is the timing of the title crawl. Not only does the Star Wars logo recede to fast on the english angle version, but is correct on the other languages (so easily fixed) but ever since they added "Episode IV" the crawl appears too late. If you watch "empire of Dreams" at the sequence with the original pre ANH crawl you will notice that the crawl appears at a specific music cue and this is how i always remember it. The crawl appearing at that specific cue fits in way better than it has ever since. I want it back to the way it was originally and because i intend to do the whole saga, changing this won't look out of place.

I think i've figured out a way of adding and introduction Alderaan sequence priior to the extra sequence i added to its destruction. I just need to find all the shots and dialogue i need to pull it off, so fingers crossed.

I've managed to find a French 5.1 track and its amazing just how much the mix is different to the English version. The surround mix and even a lot of the L7R chanel mix is even worse than the Eng version but at least it doesn't have the dialogue bleed over so it will be great as a basis for my new mix when used in conjunction with the Eng mix and my new elements. The surround chanels from the French mix has to be thrown out completely because most if it is almost mono and sounds terrible, but i don't need it anyway as my mix will have a mostly new surround chanel mix.One thing i noticed on the French mix is in the remote training scene aboard the Falcon. When they are playing the holo-chess game there is a great sound effect eminating from the game which changes as each player takes its turn. I just love it so its definately going in the mix.

Oh, and on one last moter, i may have found a way of adding the Emperor to one small scene without it standing like a sore thumb. I won't tell you any more until i know for definate that it can be done.

EDIT: I've just compared the position of the tombstones in AOTC to all of the Lars homestead shots in ANH and there is only 1 frame that the tombstones could possibly be in view so it just wouldn't be worth adding them

Your work is impressive...most impressive. I visit the boards all the time and hardly post, but I can't help but give you props for all the hard work you're putting into this project. I must admit that I never thought adding Jar Jar or Bail Organa to "A New Hope" was a good idea. I thought any addition would be obtrusive or distracting, but your minor glimpse is so impressive that I've watched the thing a dozen times. I just can't get over how good that shot looks. I have one question though, if you've answered this before I apologize. When do you expect to finish this project?

That's what mverta was doing - taking one of the other language's logos and putting it on the English crawl. But if you look closely, it's not the same logo. it has a much straighter top line on the ST of STAR. One of my fixes was retiming the original logo to the correct speed, so I can make that available to you as well as the other stuff.

I'm glad you mentioned it - I'd forgotten to include it in v3 of my edit!

Thanks for pointing that out. i never noticed the difference until you said. The good thing is that the foreign language logo matches the PT one so it will be perfect to use for mine.

Wow, can't wait to see how the emperor will be fit into ANH. Are you sure you don't want to spoil it for us? Hehe

Just out of curiosity, where in ANH would the tombstones be visible?

It's still only in the idea stage and there is a chance that i won't be able to incorporate the Emperor into ANH, so i'm keeping that under wraps at the moment.

the only possible shot that the tombstones would be visible is the first frame of the shot where Luke returns home to find the bodies of Own & beru. Its the shot taken from lukes point of view as he pulls up in the landspeeder. Even then they might well still be out of frame.

Been following your progress so far with you edit and I have admit it is the reason why I joined the forum. It is amazing work you are doing and the dedication that's being put is going to make this edit possibly the best one out. Anyway, after watching your Alderaan sequence over and over, which from one editor to another is just "teh sex", I think maybe some sort of wider shot of the planet before the explosion could make it a bit more powerful i.e destructive.

I made two rough composites on Photoshop as an idea. I found the footage of a planetary explosion/ self destruct from an episode of Star Trek: Enterprise called "Twilight" (I believe it's from Season 3?) Anyway, the footage is that of the Earth being struck by a laser from a sphereical ship ( shades of Death Star) and wiping it out. The effects work, even for television, was pretty convincing and was not shoddy at all. If cropped and recomposited, it can be turned into a shot for the Alderaan sequence.

Again these are just ideas.

The reality is footage from that episode, which has an aspect ratio of 1.78 :1, would have to be recomped to it the 2.35:1 ratio of the films.

If you need help let me know. I'd love to help. I own an iMac G5 with Final Cut Pro, Motion, and Photoshop (still trying to get my hands on a copy of After Effects) if that helps any.

It seems almost appropriate that you would be able to see the tombstones there for that shot. It would be interesting to see if that shot could be widened or reframed in a way to include them. It would be cool to see the stones smoldering as well from some stormtrooper vandalism.

That shot from Enterprise would look incredible in Star Wars! It would give a whole new dimension to the destruction of Alderaan. I love what Adywan has already done and love all the new ideas that are being birthed from this. Can't wait to see this!

This was posted on the tf.n forums on an old list of possible changes. I don't think anyone ever actually integrated it into the film, but I always liked the idea...

Adywan, maybe this has already been answered, but are you planning to do anything about Vader's red eyes or the moments when we can see through his lenses to David Prowse inside?

Amazing project, Adywan. It's wonderful to see this kind of top-notch stuff happening on the boards.

As for all these suggested alterations, it all really comes down to how much you want to change the saga. Take the Emperor in ANH for example; what I've had in mind for this scene is moving the Vader/Emperor conversation from ESB (with appropriate changes) and placing it at the end of ANH, just before the awards ceremony. That would require an establishing shot of Vader's TIE approaching his Star Destroyer, and you've already made something along those lines. So it's things like that I'm wondering are they even worth mentioning or totally out of the question (for you). The now-on-hiatus Starkiller Ranch thread has a multitude of ideas of this nature, which I'd be happy to go into detail with you on should you wish to dicuss them.

Again, it's encouraging to see someone who has the time and devotion to put so much work into a project like this. Yours is certainly one of the most exciting on the board!

Maybe this could be the base of the Starkillers episode 4 edit *hmm*. If we use this then there would only be a couple more thigns to change such as a few plot points, and audio changes.
I'm probably thinking to far into the future though lol.

AvatarX I love the idea of using the Trek footage for the Alderaan scen. It adds in perfectly with the expanded scenes i've almost finished. Bit of a weird coincidence too. the day before you posted your idea I purchased the season 3 box set of Enterprise but hadn't got as far as that episode. So i've got a good quality source to work from. Thanks.

Well i'm having a few days break from the effects work and concentrating on the task of colour correction. I've almost finsihed the Tantive IV sequences and its looking pretty good. just a few more tweaks to do. Its really hard to get the right balance between shots as it keeps changing levels. i doubt i'm going to be able to get it exactly right, but it's still going to look better than that horrible blue tint the DVD has.

I think i may have found a way of adding a couple of shots of the tombstones. one before Owen & Beru are killed, and one after. I like the idea of the stormtrooper vandalism. Its going to take a lot of work so the shots may not appera in my finished version. but if they look good enough then they will.

I've got a few more shots left to finish, but Vaders red eyes have gone.

Heres a quick shot with the finished colour correction. I've managed to tweak 3PO too so he's now finally gold again.

And this one shows the Vader red eye elimination. Ignore the lightsabers because thats only an overlay added for colour tracking. The new sabers for that shot haven't been added yet. As you can see in the original (top one)the lightsaber colours have been swapped and Obi-Wan is holding vaders saber. Also there isn't any colour correction added yet to this shot.

Well, that pic of Leia isn't actually in the movie. All of these tactical displays in the Yavin base look cool with their concentric circles, but I have never seen anything in the movie that hints at the displays being useful. With the exception of the rount tabletop displays of course. I'd like to see a bit of movement put on these plastic vertical displays.
