We are about 2 weeks and some change away, and I was curious as to what people’s plans are as of now.

I believe that this is the last release of the OOT. I honestly believe that. I hope I'm wrong, but I'd rather buy them and own them in case I am right.

I prefer to see these movies in the theater so i'll see whatever version shows up on the big screen. It would seem that as long as George is alive these movies will be revised, and i'm not interested in compensating LFL for these tinkerings. I'll wait till he's done (don't know how to guage that) or he's dead.

It's more fun going through the Hyperspace content to see how these movies we're made, then to watch them anymore. So that's where my funds go.

I plan on buying Star Wars, keeping only the Star Wars disc, putting it in a case with a cover image of the original one sheet, and going on with my life. The screen grabs look fine. Truthfully - better than I expected and certainly good enough to enjoy the adventure.

I am buying them and I have been steadfast since day one, even after the non-anamorphic BS Lucas pulled on us all. I still say I would rather watch a non-anamorphic Sebastian Shaw then a pristine transfer with Hayden in ROTJ.

I still say fans should buy, because I believe this release shouldn't be the forum for a protest vote. The future boxsets is where Lucas is losing us, not the versions we want! I am buying this, but what has changed in the way Lucas has treated this fanbase for me is, that if any future release doesn't contain the O-OT fully remastered, he aint getting my money, plain & simple.

After this release, I will have my O-OT versions I have waited for since the inception of DVD, so I will be happy. Will I be totally satisifed, not at all, but that is where Lucas has to play ball in the future. After the 2004 SE release and the 2006 O-OT, every fan, whether casual or diehard has one of the versions they want. In the future, Lucas has to appeal to the diehards to keep buying these releases, cause the casual fan won't keep buying the same movies again, and aren't interested in more changes.

Lucas has atleast 2 more big releases for the saga, the 2007 Saga Boxset for DVD, and the HD-DVD boxset somewhere in the next couple years, and that is where I say as a diehard fan to Lucas, "Does it contain the O-OT fully remastered?"

If No, then I simply won't buy it. That is where Lucas is losing me as a fan, not in this release, but in the future.

I'm buying them day one. I'll probably either throw away the SE discs, or maybe sell them on ebay (if there's any kind of market for them). It's my personal opinion that, while we will probably see an improved version of the OOT at some point, it's not going to be any time soon.

In many ways, I feel as though we are to blame for this whole fiasco. We demanded the O-OT on DVD, but we didn't specify under what conditions we wanted to see it. Now we're getting it, and we don't know whether to take a mile with this inch or just settle with it.

Unless people on here start jumping up and down about how good the transfer is, I'm quite happy to stick with Moth3r's PAL transfer.

Preordered all 3 from Amazon not too long after they were announced.

I can hardly wait!

I'll be buying them and enjoying them.

And if the SE send-back campaign gets organized so I know I won't waste them without cause, I'll happily send them back to LFL.
For one thing, I already have a copy.

My stance on revising fan edits.

I understand your point but I must respectfully disagree. There is no way that in 2006 we should have to specify exactly what a DVD should contain to a company that was (is?) the forefront of movie technology.

I'll most likely pick them up on Monday the 11th September (one day before the official release, and up to 46 hours before the official release date in America). I'll then post some uncompressed, un-resized screenshots of the PAL discs... after I've watched them. I don't mind that it includes the 2004 SE... Stargate Ultimate anyone?

It's been a long wait, but finally the Original Star Wars Trilogy will be released on DVD.

Just to elaborate further, it seems like a foregone conclusion that a DVD released in 2006 would be presented anamorphically. Why should anyone have to ask for anamorphic or any other features we presumed were industry standard?

Imagine the required wording on THAT petition:

"We the undersigned would like a DVD release of the Original Unaltered Star Wars Trilogy. We would like the movies presented anamorphically, shown in color, with appropriate menus, with dialog in English by the original actors, with the same John Williams pieces originally written for the movie, pressed (not burned) onto a standard-size DVD disk, contained in a durable case, shrink-wrapped, sold in retail stores or online for a reasonable retail price."

Even then, Lucasfilm would still find a clever loophole just to screw with us.

Same here. So I guess that makes me a weak person who goes back on his word, but whatever.

I plan on spending the rest of the night in, maybe writing something about a classic movie I saw yesterday. Old horror flick -- shot on 16mm, blown up to 35, distributed to theaters who cut it to shreds because of its "objectionable" content. The sound elements for all the cut scenes were lost. The existing scenes were in rough shape, and no one could afford/justify a full restoration. Its creator doesn't think it's a particularly good movie, is embarrassed by the amateur quality of the whole thing, and is letting other people remake it. And it still got a better treatment on DVD than the Star Wars Trilogy.

Oh, is that what you were asking about? Our plans regarding the upcoming release of old Star Wars video material? Not interested in that at all.

Bulls-eye- in my opinion, pristine picture quality means diddaly squat when the uplifting effect is destroyed.

That will be a nice comprimise- I'm only getting RotJ- the full screen version if the OOT is Widescreen either way, as I plan to use it to take hi(gher)-res stills of my favorite undestroyed scenes.

Am I the only one who heard Hulk Hogan when reading the subject title of this thread?

I'm still taking a wait and see approach. Those screenshots looked better then I expected, but still weary of buying them. I don't like I'll be re-buying the 2004 set I already bought.

Yeah, no matter how good or bad the transfers are, this simple fact still really irks me. Is anyone still up for doing the SE mail-back?

I'm game- but it doesn't look like many are willing to send their discs back. I think it's a fantastic idea.
In any case, I'll be keeping the box and the bonus disc from the 2004 set, and putting the new DVDs in the other DVD's place.

I will be checking to see which store has the best gift-with-purchase, and then I'll head out to buy them on the 12th.

Ah, do you mean, "When Hulkamania runs wild on YOU!" LOL Maybe we could still use that but tweak it a little:

"Whatcha gonna do, George, when originaltrilogy.com runs wild on YOU!"

Or how about:

"Whatcha gonna do, Geroge, when the 'SE send back the disc posse' runs wild on YOU!"

Good point. But I would have been satisfied if they were exactly the same quality as a brand new OOT VHS.

If I end up caving in and buying them for fear that next year's Saga boxed set doesn't include them, I'll be sending the SEs back to Lucas.

Yes, own the OOT...for the last time...Or, until the 30th Anniversary set comes out or the next inevitable release that incorporates "rare deleted scenes from the Lucasfilm vaults". Yeah, I know numerous people have stated it already, but it's a quick cash grab.

If they come out with a boxed set next year of all 6 movies, you can be sure that it will *NOT* include the OUT, but rather the SE's. They will probably have bonus features discs, but they aren't going to include additional extra discs that they don't have to. IMO, this is really the last opportunity to buy the OUT on DVD. If they ever do it again, it'll probably be HD-DVD or such.

And, even if I'm wrong, and they do include the OUT in 2007, it'll still be the same discs you'd be getting Sept 12. So what's the advantage to waiting? I already own the PT, so that isn't an incentive for me.
