XØ, if you had to choose your two favorite software for the proyect, which ones would they be and why?

I appreciate the amount work being put into this preservation effort. Great work guys! Unfortunately, I know little about the old LD technology, and so I have to wonder why there appears to be no way of getting hold of the LD data other than doing analogue captures. It seems that getting hold of the raw digital image data, as stored on the disk itself, isn't possible for some reason. Why is this?

Probably Discreet Combustion and Adobe Premiere. Those are the two programs that we're using the most. Combustion is used for the frame by frame cleanup, as you've probably seen in the web doc. Premiere is used for editing the shots together from the different sources, and for color correction. AviSynth and VirtualDubMod are also huge players though.

Just wanted to say, again, how much I love SATA drives, because they drive down the cost of PATA drives. Just got a 300GB drive for $99 - great for an emergency drive (job #1: offloading data from a 250GB that had the partition deleted.....AGAIN!. )

I always keep a backup of my partition table for just that situation. Five hundred twelve bytes well spent.

Guess I should try that. I currently use a program called Stellar Phoenix, with excellent results, but it's a hassle nonetheless.

Well some screens of the new bitchen George Lucas approved OOT "Bonus Material" have been posted in the General Star Wars forum....and all I can say
is, we are all EXTREMELY LUCKY and blessed that the X0 team decided to come together, spend money they didn't have, spend time on the project that took away time
from their families, and make sacrifices to bring us the OOT.

Thank you guys. It is amazing to me that the raw X0 transfer looks better than the official OOT.

Thank you for putting your extraordinary talents into this project....you have been a blessing to many a Star Wars fan.

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

Personally I couldn't do without Shake. The nodal nature of the product allows you to layer stuff up in insanse ways, feed various results back into other routines and then recombine with ease. Plus you can dig straight into the scripts.

It makes things simple that would be a bear in other products.

As for these official pictures, I wouldn't take them as an indication of quality. I am pretty sure the official release will have more detail and colour saturation than people are expecting.

As for how it will compare withe the X0 release, who knows, I am expecting some stuff to be better in the OUT and some to be better in the X0 project. I expect the X0 project to have a more coherent look overall.

A lot will depend if Lucasfilm are using the master that would have been created *before* they did the shoddy dirt/noise removal algorithm that threw all the detail away on the THX LD releases. If it is the pressing master then unfortunately all the trails and smearing will be in there and I would expect to get a better experience on the X0 release.

Nothing to stop your running an older version of Shake, it still wipes the floor with almost anything - of course you can just dual boot the new macs now and run Windows and OSX and the tools of choice.

Is there a version of Shake for Windows?

I believe Apple discontinued the Windows version when they purchased Shake. However, they still offer a Linux version. You could use that on your PC, or try to find an older Windows version.

You can go about your business. Move along, move along.

That's about the smartest thing I've heard all week on the issue.

I have recently came upon a method to upmix stereo sources into 5.1. I'd like to offer my services in creating 5.1 mixes out of the XØ project's soundtracks.
