Even Cosmo Magazine is Talking About the 09/12 Release...

So I picked up my g/f's Cosmopolitan mag and skimmed through it (hey, what's not to like?!? ridiculous articles, pics of hot women... ). And there in the "Hot Fall Releases" section is this:

Staying in With Your Guy:

Star Wars: The Original Trilogy - 9/12

He'll love quoting Darth Vader's "I am your faaah-ther" for the umpteenth time. You'll love that Harrison Ford as Han Solo looks even better in the remastered version.

So should we write them too and let them know it won't be anamorphic. LOL LOL

No need to defend yourself about the Cosmo. It's cool with me. Interesting how they assume that girls wouldn't be interested in Star Wars as well. Well, maybe girls who read Cosmo a lot wouldn't...

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

I found there were a lot more girls in the prequel line-ups than for the O.T. line-ups.

Turns out almost all of them showed up because of Ewan McGregor ..... but most of them left as Star Wars fans. Not even that they particularly liked the prequels ... but the line-up experience of 6-week Hollywood Boulevard festivals suitably immersed them in Star Wars to gain a general appreciation.

Speaking as a girl who's pre-teen crush on Mark Hamill turned into a full-blown Star Wars obsession, I can assure you that there are a lot of female Star Wars fans. This one, however, does not read Cosmo.

I do receive emails from Master Replicas though, and the email I got from them today stated "Original Trilogy on DVD next month".

Well, perhaps Cosmo is talking about them but very few others are. I just spoke to my brother who works at Blockbuster and he said they have received absolutely no promotional material for this new release. In fact, if it wasn't for me he wouldn't even know they were coming out.

War does not make one great.

Sounds like the kind of promotion Lucas would want to curtail sales and "prove" that no one wants the OOT on DVD.

We may yet be able to do something about the one-sided "proof" that Lucas is looking for by writing various magazines, which we've started doing at the thread DVD WRITING CAMPAIGN - WEEK ONE - "Entertainment Weekly".

Our goal is NOT to change this release, because that would be impossible at this point, but we still may be able to be vocal enough to show that sales of the DVDs alone are NOT proof-positive of non-interest.

Don't let Lucas lie to the world and deny the OOT an industry-standard (at least) release in the future!

It must be nice to be as rich as Lucas and be able to afford to sabotage a release of your own just to prove a point. But then again, did the '05 set get much advertisement?

Was the '05 release the family value pack without the extras?

I really don't remember seeing ANY ads for the '05 set, and really- I only remember seeing a few TV ads for the '04 set. I imagine that these new DVDs will get a few TV ads a week or 2 before the release, then maybe a few before Christmas- and that's it.

The Suncoast stores have big cardboard displays up, but I haven't been to Best Buy or Circuit City lately to see if they have anything up.

I've seen boards up at FYE all summer, not that they've really understood what it's all about.

Mielr, I had no idea you were a girl! ...girl here as well...and that Cosmo thing made me laugh. So effin' dumb. I had to tell this girl at work there was no such thing as Star Trak, or at least I knew she MEANT Star TREK. My friend at work was changing shirts in the hallway, and I noticed he had a Rebel Alliance tattoo, and told him so. His jaw just about hit the floor when I named the symbol without hesitation. He was like, "I never knew a girl who knew what that was!"

Yeah, girls who wouldn't know that annoy me. Without trying to sound sexist, it seems that so many of them just seem so oblivious to everything except what directly concerns them. Of course, I guess I could say that about most of my generation. So I'm glad I know so many girls who aren't like that.

Well hey, I think that makes....two of us? LOL! I think there might be a few other females lurking around here.

Most guys are amazed when they find out I'm a Star Wars fanatic. When the SEs came out in '97, I was working in my sister's pizza place that she owned back then, which was just a few doors down from an AMC movie theater. (BTW- on ESB's opening day, the line from the movie theater stretched all the way to the front of our restaurant, and we went outside and took orders for slices from the people who were waiting on line!) One of our 'regulars' came in, and of course all the talk was about SW back then, with ESB playing next door. He thought he'd test my SW trivia knowlege, and asked me what language Jabba spoke. He seemed completely shocked when I said "Huttese".

Bleah. Cosmo can suck my clit. They just generalize and assume that being female automatically exempts you from ever being a science fiction fan, and the only reason ANY girl would look at a Sci-Fi movie is for the "hot boyz". That the only way you are going to see this film is if you are snuggled up with your man after giving him head while he opens up the wrapper to his new Star Wars DVDs.

Fuck them, and fuck their stereo typing. If they ever ran into a girl that actually loved Science Fiction their whole company would explode in a paradoxial blast that would rip the universe a new one out of the sheer implausability of it all.

Gurlz doN'T likE SieNCe-FicSHun!!!11! LOL!!!111! HuuuuUUUrrrRrrr!!!!111

That makes three of us then...

I did admit that my Star Wars facination started with a crush on Mark Hamill, but if the films hadn't been fantastic, I wouldn't still be a fan after all these years. I really don't like the "chick flicks" that most women are supposed to like- in fact I hate them.

LOL, Jenny! Yep, I pretty much feel the same way. I'm a fantasy fan, and some of the stuff I'm into happens to be likened to sci-fi some of the time.

I changed my screensaver at work today to read "Star Wars blows" in honor of Lucas not ceasing to fuck with Star Wars. I'm pretty pissed about this DVD release.

I usually hate all chick flicks too, Mielr.

As sales are slowly rising, his plan seems to be backfiring.

lol. Any self-respecting guy being told to suck someone's clit wouldn't hesitate to jump at the opportunity--tisn't a good way to indict something. But Cosmo, yeah, they stereotype their own readership like mad, I agree. I read them for laughs when I'm on break at work, and never cease to be amazed at how ridiculous it is. I am male, by the way. I do think Bridget Jones' Diary was a hilarious movie, though. Just not any other chick flicks. heh

I dig girls who like Star Wars. They tend to be somewhat hard to find, but worth it when you do, particularly when they are fans of the originals (and the Zahn books!). My girlfriend likes it plenty, fortunately. 'Course, she's as obsessed with Harry Potter as I am with Star Wars; good thing for her I like HP as well.

Attack of the Clones, (particularly the early trailers and posters, and the "love story" in general) was very calculated to get more girls to Star Wars. I guess it didn't work. Too bad, I was gonna use "you're not like sand" as my new pick -up line.
