STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 REVISITED ADYWAN *1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION — Page 6

OK, adywan, you’ve gotten me way too excited here.
So I don’t pretend to have the best ideas for possible changes to Star Wars, but a few things have come to my crazy mind I’d like to share. Reply accordingly.

First off:
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k168/SSWR/LukeRain_01.jpg
I just really like the idea that out of all six movies, it rains on Tatoonie ONCE. When? When everything begins to change. When a new hope is possible. A cleansing rain.
And I wouldn’t have it pour…just begin to sprinkle. My image has too much rain in it.

2nd:
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k168/SSWR/Plan_01.jpg
This is probably the worst Photoshop image I’ve done.
But you get the idea. I don’t want it to look like *my* image, but maybe change something in the scene…I like the idea that the lights might darken.

3rd and 4th:
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k168/SSWR/Escape_01.jpg
http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k168/SSWR/Escape_02.jpg
OK, this just has always bugged me. How do the rebels get so far away from the DS before it blows up? This could solve that problem. I think you get the idea. I like this because it adds even *more* tension to the scene. Will they get out of there in time? I guess it’s similar to ROTJ in that way. The hardest shot would be the DS blowing up and the falcon & company flying by in the same shot. *IF* you were to do this, the nice thing is you wouldn’t have to retime the music or anything. The shots could still be the same length.

I know, I know, some of these ideas are too radical, too impossible, too pointless, or too stupid to some. But since I’ll probably never get to try this in my own edit, I wanted to throw it out there.
If I'm out of line for sharing these here in this thread, just let me know.

I love that shot of it raining on Tatooine. It may only be a rough guide but I think it looks perfect

My favorite thing about the ALDERAAN DESTRUCTION EXTENDED video clip is the fact that Jar Jar is in it. But I also have to ask the question of why he is there.

SomethingStarWarsRelated,

I like the idea of having the ships in the shot as the DS explodes.

The darkened rebel briefing looks cool, but I don't know if it really accomplishes anything.

Having it rain on Tatooine is a cool concept, but I don't think it would be possible to convincingly add rain in the shot (the rain would need to interact with the ground and/or Luke).

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

SomethingStarWarsRelated,

i love your ideas. the first 2 are pretty cool, but my favourite has to be the ships only just escaping as the Death Star explodes. My only worry is that it may end up being too similar to ROTJ. I do have a few ideas on how to avoid that though so i may start playing about with some test FX later. many thaks for your input. Please feel free to keep the ideas coming.

One thing that bugged me after the PT came out is that, what started out as a large character in TPM was never mentioned in the OT. Its just an idea that i had in the back of my head after seeing AOTC that maybe Jar Jar was on Alderaan when it was destroyed.

It's so cool to see this new shot inserted into this scene!
I've wanted to see something like this for years now!
My only concern is that it goes by too quickly. I had to watch it serveral times to see everything in it.
Tellen asked if there was some sort of establishing shot of the planet...I think that might make it work.
But again, wow! Jiminy cricket was right...my dreams are coming true!

I'm may try and slow the scene down slightly but it may mean starting the scene from scratch. I did want to insert an establishing shot of Alderaan with Bail looking up at the Death Star as it sets into orbit but i haven't figured out where i could insert it and still keep the flow of the scene.

Tellan, just watched your scenes. Amazing. I'll send you an email in the next couple of days.

You could have Bail look up and see the death star and drop his head in grief, then you cut to the to the death star firing, and you show the the scene where Bail and Jar Jar get blown up. About slowing the scene down, I think slowing it down would do wonders for the scene.
Plus the Luk's lightsaber is fantastic!

Today will be a day long remembered. It has seen the end of Jar Jar Binks, it will soon see the end of the clunky fan edits.

Is there a reason you post half of these clips on Rapidshare and the other half on Yousendit?

I'd like you to re-host all of the Rapidshare clips on Yousendit, please, including the Alderaan destruction one.

I just thought I mention it, although I know you said you were still far from finished but the training ball disappears in a couple frames with Luke training.

daveytod: thanks for the kind words! I thought it turned out reasonably well too!

Erikstormtrooper:
Thank you for the kind words as well!
Yeah, I don't think the darkened rebel briefing room accomplishes anything either...it just *might* bring it out of that 70's look that it's in.

Well, the only way I could see the rain shot working would be this:
You'd have to find a rain element shot against a black screen...most likely from a behind-the-scenes on a DVD. Could be a pain to find one.
I also found this website: http://www.vce.com/ImageLibrary/wrs.html
If you could get larger resolution of a few of these, it just might work! Looks like you'd have to buy it from their store...hmmm

Adywan:
Once again, thank you for the kind words! I will certainly keep the ideas coming!
Yeah, it may be too much like ROTJ...then again, Lucas loves it when things rhyme!

I'm may try and slow the scene down slightly but it may mean starting the scene from scratch. I did want to insert an establishing shot of Alderaan with Bail looking up at the Death Star as it sets into orbit but i haven't figured out where i could insert it and still keep the flow of the scene.

This may do the trick just fine. You might be able to insert it right after we actually see the DS entering the Alderaan system. Then you would cut back to the DS with Tarkin and Liea.
I'll have some more thoughts coming later...

I love the idea of the Death Star being very close to the Flcon and the X-wings before it 'splodes. It would be great to see the rebels do some sort of mini-hyperspace jump before the explosion. And I'd love to see maybe see a tie fighter or two following get caught in the explosion.

Except that a mini-hyperspace run would put all those vehicles way out of the Yavin system. I'm not saying it wouldn't be cool, just not logical. But Lucas loves cool, illogical things when it comes to the Death Star 'splosions. Like the shock waves: Wouldn't Yavin IV & the Sanctuary Moon of Endor be catostrophically affected due to the destruction of an orbiting satelite the size of a small moon? For this reason alone, I really really really really really don't like the shock waves. They take me out of the movie.

Adywan,

You did a brillant job covering up marks on the door in the detention block before it blows.

Is there any chance you could do the same for the wall during the Obi-Wan and Vader fight. As everyone knows you see the damaged wall before Vader hits it while trying to swing at Obi-Wan.

Thanks.

Another suggestion for you Adywan: Throughout the OT, the shadows cast by the saber props are plainly visible on floors, walls, etc. Any way to get rid of these?

Well, maybe not an official, actual hyperspace run, just a big burst of speed at the last minute.

It'd probably be easier to create the element in Motion and comp it in using Final Cut or Shake.

I have a new idea. I don't know if it is plausible though.
Is there anyway to have the Emperor dissolve the senate. I'm guess that you could take footage from Episode 3 and change the coloring a bit and flip the frame. Then have Sidious say something like "There is no need for a Senate now, I will be the sole ruler of this galaxy"
Author
Time
but you['ve got realise, inserting scenes like this, then make the later scene with tarkin announcing the senate disolution superflous.

it's a bad story telling techinique, repeating a scene and showing it in narrative form from two different perspectives.

tarking coming in and announcing it is then unnecessary. however, you could show the emperor disolving the senate, then cut to the meeting room later where they discuss the death star instead + vaders force choke and you cut out the announcement part.

Adding or not adding a senate scene would also depend on how you view this edit, whether it's intended as a sequel to the prequel (if you get my meaning) or if it should stand alone as it first did, but with added effects and such. If it's a stand alone kind of thing, I'm not sure it'd be a good idea to jump to a planet we've never seen into a location we have no context for, so a character we've never met can tell a bunch of people they're not needed anymore only to leave the scene right after he does so and not see anyone from it for the rest of the movie.

I just said that idea if he was still thinking of leaving in Alderaan and stuff.

I guess it would help if you discussed the extent of the changes you are making here, adywan.
Is this a stand alone version? or episode 4 in the saga?
My guess is it's the later. Just by looking a your first post in the thread:

"Pistol blasts now match closer to the prequel trilogy..."
"Also re-painted the sabers so they tie in with the rest of the saga."

As far as the senate scene goes, it would be fun to see, but I feel the same way as tellen. Just not needed.
Maybe as a deleted scene though?

This is episode 4. I'm intending to do all 6 in the saga but because Ep 4 needs the most work on effects fixes i decided to start with that first (plus i'm waiting til TPM is release with the CG yoda and not that horrible puppet). My whole intention is to tie all 6 films together so that if you watch them back to back so that:
1. OT doesn't look so dated with its effects compared to the PT. Plus there was a lot of things in ANH that i was hoping Lucasfilm had fixed by now, but haven't and doesn't look like they are planning on anytime soon.
2. by adding a few tie-ins from the PT to the OT (and editing the PT) they flow together better (and not just a montage of planets at the end of the saga

It would be cool to see the emperor disolve the senate but i can't see it fitting in without having to sacrifice most of the Tarkin scene. But the idea of a deleted scene has stirred my imagination.

If anyone wants has some scenes or shots they wish was in ANH, even if it wouldn't fit in the film, then please post them in here. I've had an idea of, as a special feature, making a montage of completely new clips or shots. I want to throw a few humourous ones in too, so let me know. I will probably only have the capability & material to do some but it could be a cool special feature for the DVD

On another note, theres something that is really bugging me about the 5.1 English audio track on the DVS. There is bleedover from the dialogue into the front Left & Right chanels. I've been searching for a foriegn 5.1 audio track from the 2004 dvds but int the UK the only audio track is English. If anyone has a DVD of ANH with a foreign 5.1 audio track could you please post just the ripped .ac3 file somewhere please. it doesn't matter what language it is or that it is NTSC or PAL it would just save a lot of work for my new mix and eliminate that horrible bleed over.

thanks (with fingers crossed)
