I rarely go to Star Wars' official site but I figured I would pop over there to see if there is anything new about the 09/12 release. There on the homepage you see the following:
Even though it says the above was written in March 10, 2006 ('07 info on May 10), I think it is highly, HIGHLY suspect that they kept the March update around and linked it with the more recent '07 one. Sure it can be argued that the sentence above is talking about the 09/12 release, but LFL had more than enough time to update since that announcement. Since they have not, I say they didn't because there are even more releases and "rarities" on the way.
Upcoming DVD releaes? But I thought that this one was George's "original vision." As I've stated on numerous occasions, I firmly believe that Lucas is anything but stupid, and that he knows releasing a remastered OOT on the boxed set would mean that people like me would pay through the nose to get it. He's one of the most brilliant businessmen that the earth has ever known. The Lucasfilm archives my...more like "Now that we have seen that there is demand for a remastered OOT we might consider it."
Which brings us to the once again catch 22. Lucas wants to see if the OUT DVD's sell. If they don't, then there's no reason to include them in the rumored archival edition of the saga. If of course they do sell well, then he'll more than likely include an anamorphic and restored transfer within the archival edition box set, proving once AGAIN that a year can't go by where Luca$ needs to rape the fans wallets.
I was thinking that too, but it sounds too good to be true. Then there is the case of these DVDs. Judging from what figures are looking like now, it appears that sales will be good, but not great. I think that now, our best option appears to be prayer.
If LFL would release the product that I
want to buy I wouldn't hesitate for a microsecond to purchase it.
The fact of the matter is, Lucasfilm is aware of the rabid fan preservation community and this is their way of stemming the tide, which, as we all know, won't work.
If this release had been a high-quality release, then it would have. This release seems to have done the exact opposite of what Lucas wanted, in that instead of ending the whole situation (which it would have done had these DVD releaes not sucked), it's blown the doors open on the whole situation.
The sad thing is many years ago, I would always be hyped to hear anything newsworthy of SW, via the movies, video release. Now it just comes down to one question: Does it contain a remastered O-OT version in the boxset? If the answer is no, then I don't care George.
Sadly, I'm coming to agree. The most pervese part is, if there is a remasted OOT in it, then LFL stand to regain me as a fan and make more money, but until such a time, I am done with
Star Wars.
One can hope.
Yes, we can. And hope springs eternal, hopefully.
Well, when compared directly to the 70mm film cels I've collected over the years, the DE/Faces colors are much more accurate that the '04 colors.
Mightn't that be because Lowry was rushed and given thirty days to do the work instead of what Spielberg did, which was actually take a little time and effort on the Indiana Jones boxed set. Not only does the 04 set not contain the Star Wars movies like it advertises, but the so-called remaster was rushed. If you want that to be the definitive version George, then make it the definitve version.
The special "surprise" is probably just that tv series.
