Yeah I think Favreau has a good feel for what works and what doesn't. Should be fun at least!

Now if only video game movie directors were this commited to doing it right. I so hope they don't make Halo suck.

Hey Greencapt, what was the name of that spoof superhero comic where everyone knows the heroes identity but he denies it?

War does not make one great.

I know I hit on this one a while ago, but has anyone been reading Gaiman's The Eternals? Good stuff, so far.

Also, saw recently that The Avengers is going to be made into a movie, which is good, IMO, as hopefully DC will do the same with JLA.

Civil War Delayed Big Time-

I'm a Marvel newb, to tell the truth. I've only been reading their stuff for about 2 1/2 years now. I love it. I think their art is outstanding, and the stories good. I've always heard about problems in their "event" series and such, but never paid it any heed.

This IRKS me:

Civil War Delayed

This series is very good, and I've been picking up many of the tie-ins, but now I've even got to wait for those. Boo I say! Boo and Hiss!

Civil War is not the only thing delayed.

Justice League of America #1, Wonder Woman #2, All Star Superman, the horrible All Star Batman and Robin...

Any word on Robin 153? It was supposed to come out today, but my local comic shop didn't have it.

Fortunately JLA is only delayed for a week. Civil War and it's tie-ins are being pushed to late September! Wonder Woman...meh. Don't read it, but I understand if it's fans are torqued off. The first one came out like 2 months ago, I think.

Well, I wasn't too fond of the first issue, but I'm still giving it a chance for at least one more issue.

Yeah comics was expensive. One of the main reasons I stopped collecting was that I couldn't afford to buy all the titles neccesary to understand what the hell was going on in any given storyline.

That's why I usually stick to Graphic Novels. Well-written, tightly conceived, self-contained stories.

Iron Man was the first comic I ever collected, so I'm pretty excited about this. I was worried it might just be another crappy Marvel adaptation but with Jon Favreau directing, this could be great.

From the Marvel website:

At the San Diego Comic Con this past weekend, director/actor/writer Jon Favreau, who is set to helm the highly anticipated big screen adaptation of Iron Man, announced who Shellhead's nemesis would be in the upcoming film.

Mr. Favreau of Swingers and Made fame, named fan-favorite and long-standing Iron Man archenemy Mandarin as the villain who will be the rust in Tony Stark's armor.

Additionally, we have a sneak peak of the teaser poster that was shown at the convention. Designed by Iron Man artist Adi Granov—a major player in the production design of this film—this poster gives a glimpse as to what Stark could look like when he eventually dons the red and gold suit in May of 2008.

This project, the first feature film to be produced independently by Marvel Entertainment, is expected to be financed through Marvel's $525 million revolving film financing facility and distributed under Marvel's overall distribution arrangement with Paramount. Iron Man will mark the first production under Mr. Arad's newly launched production company, Avi Arad Productions.

Storyboarding has already commenced. Favreau had stated that he intended to cast an unknown in the role of Anthony Stark a.k.a Iron Man, though rumors are gaining momentum. Favreau has also said that the plot itself will not so much deal with his personal problems (alcoholism) as much as the creation of his suit and the birth of Iron Man. However, he did say if there would be a sequel, the story could easily head in some of those directions.

Keep your eye-beams on the look out for more news on this metal-head movie.

Yeah, but a 22-page issue costs $3 (well, more for me but that's Australian $$$), and it leaves you hangin'.

Sometimes, but I usually only read graphic novels with JSA in them rather than JSA stories. I love Hawkman, and Power Girl provides many a laugh.

You just have to ask for them, but a lot of the time, comic book stores have to order in a certain amount to even get one variant cover, like one for every five for example.

I just finished watching V For Vendetta and while I thought it was a very good story, I don't think it quite worked as a movie. Has anybody read the graphic novel? How well does it translate to the screen? Is it worth a read?

It's definitely worth a read, and this is coming from a comics fan who watched the movie first. Alan Moore is hands down THE best writer in comics. It translates to the screen pretty well, but the Wachowski brothers et al definitely put their own personality into it - and the ending is a little different - but it's up to you to decide which ending is better. Basically, the graphic novel is so huge with so many substories that they had to cut out a few substories to fit the core story into one movie - which basically means they adapted the story appropriately for the movie genre.

I definitely felt like the whole thing was crammed into a movie and needed expanding.
