BadAssKeith, you're a dork. Don't bring the fight into other threads.

He's not, I don't believe. He asked that question several posts ago, and Ingo said that he indeed was. Now he's looking for confirmation.

Nope. MS-DOS.

And I mean REAL DOS, not an emulator like DosBox.

Specifically, the DOS that comes with Win98 First Edition.

And the computer hardware is just as old?

I think I tried that before, but then it crashed horribly.

However, the patch I mentioned before that can downgrade Ultimate DOOM to Original DOOM 1.1 can be found in certain locations, but NOT on id's webpage.

Yea, DOS Doom crashed on me too, but it did it with Doom 2 and Final Doom as well, so I'm not sure what the deal is.

I just hope that "downgrade" patch also maintains all the bugfixes that were present in Ultimate DOOM. For myself, I'm perfectly happy with Ultimate Doom and don't really see what's so wrong with Thy Flesh Consumed.

Holy Shit! I just ried your idea with DOOM 2 and it worked! I'm going to have to try it again with everything else, but if DOOM 1 doesn't work, there's still that downgrade patch. Thanks!

EDIT: It works with Ultimate DOOM, except it omits the fourth episode (YAY!) I'll try it with original and Final DOOM later.

It worked for Original DOOM, but not Final DOOM. So it's just DOOM, Ultimate DOOM, and DOOM II.

Another game that comes to mind, the other OoT.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998 Nintendo 64)
In my opinion, this is the greatest video game of all time.
But there are three different versions of the game. The original version was on the gold cartridge. The Fire Temple music had Islamic chanting and Ganondorf spit out red blood near the end of the game. These were replaced for the standard grey cartridges with a bland music and green phlegm.
When it was rereleased on the gamecube, the resolution was much better resulting in a cleaner image and no dot crawl. However, the color seems to have been "enhanced" like the star wars dvds with darkened midtones. Additionally, the Muslim crescent which was on the mirror shield and other places was changed to some lame clover design. In my opinion, these changes water down the game and lessen the emotional impact it has.

Are there any ways to preserve an N64 game in the high resolution today's consoles are capable of?
And does anyone know where to find an isolated music track of the original Fire Temple music? It's hackneyed on the official soundtrack.

I have to agree with you. Ocarina of Time is my favorite game of all time. I had no idea there were changes made to it though. I own the gold cartridge, as well as the Gamecube version. Now that you mention it though, I do remember the clover thing and the green phlegm. I'll have to check back and listen to that music though, I don't think I ever played the Fire Temple on the Gamecube. My friend gave me a CD of the OoT soundtrack way back when. I'll have to find it and see if it has the Fire Temple music.

Yeah, I hated that new emblem replacing the crescent moon. It's the same on all the blocks too. And, yeah, Ganondorf puking up green blood. Niiiice. What the hell difference does the color make? Isn't blood blood?

At first I was a bit shocked that I saw blood on the ending. The game had nothing of the kind until that point and I didn't know Nintendo would allow that. Then I heard how they made it green after the gold cartridge. So lame. How can kids learn about violence unless they're exposed to something?

Yeah, the most ridiculous examples are the Gerudo guards. You slash them with your sword or shoot them with an arrow, and they just fall over with little birdies flying around their heads. Yeah... Those bitches are so dead.

I love the sound the guards make though. I have the official soundtrack and the Fire Temple music fades out early before the chanting. It is only 42 seconds when the other temple music play for nearly 2 minutes. I just wanted to use an SAT word: truncated or should I have said hackneyed.

Here's what's really weird. I wanted to capture the N64 game to my computer and the capture device picked up no video or audio signal. The gamecube has always captured normally. I recorded some of the N64 game to a vhs tape and then tried to capture the tape. That didn't work either, no a/v signal. What's up with that? Why can I capture from the gamecube but not the N64?

I have a grey cartridge of Ocarina of Time and Ganondorf coughs out blood on mine. I haven't played it in years. I didn't know they made changes to it.

There are several different versions of OoT. The original version (known as 1.0) is found on all gold cartridges. It has the most glitches to exploit (which is the best part about that game) and contains all the original uncensored elements like the Fire Temple music and blood. Some very early gray cartridges are also 1.0. Those were probably made for release at the same time as the gold cartridges. So if you have a very early gray cartridge, you possibly have 1.0, and that's why you have blood in yours. 1.1 and 1.2 are later editions of the gray cartridge that have various alterations made to them. I'm not quite sure what the difference between 1.1 and 1.2 are.

I believe the only difference between 1.1 and 1.2 is with gameshark codes. Would someone be able to make a complete uncompressed audio file of the original Fire Temple music. They would have to capture from the gold cartridge (or a 1.0 grey) but it isn't hard at all to get the music isolated.

Go to a place where there aren't background sounds. (This can be done in the first room if you kill the bat enemies and look in the right direction)
Play the song of Storms (this will restart the music from the beginning after the rain stops)
Before the music restarts, switch to first person mode (This will prevent Link from adjusting his equipment)
Capture and you have an isolated track!!
