That's not necessarily true. I'm, for the most part, a southerner, and I can (sometimes) do a convincing NY accent. And a lot of my friends can do very convincing ones. But, um, we're actors, and that's what we spend our class time doing.

Sigh, I hate dialects. I have a hard time picking them up.

Ah, but you see, what is a 'British' accent? I have a London accent, which is vastly different to say, a Liverpool accent or a Manchester accent, or a posh 'Queen's English' accent.

It's harder for us non-Brits to detect variations in the British accents. In my mind it's just "uneducated" (people like Eliza Doolittle) and "intelligent" (people like Grand Moff Tarkin)...

I know there are others, but I can't really think of them at the moment.

Robert Smith from The Cure is the one that made me realize how much of a difference a London accent to well pronounced Oxford English is.

I don't know who Eliza Doolittle is. Can you give another example?

Have you seen Lock Stock and 2 smoking barrels? That is how I talk (but not so exagerated and not all that rhyming shit either).

I am, however, quite well educated.

I can pass off a pretty good London accent and an ok New Zealand accent, although sometimes the New Zealand one changes to Australian and back again.

Well, those guys really are uneducated, but I get what you mean now. Well, I don't sound that bad, but I don't sound like Tarkin either (although I do sometimes 'clean up' my accent in order to be understood by Americans).

I'd never fool someone actually from great britain. I mix and match accents, so like sometimes I'll say one phrase in a more educated sounding accent and sometimes I'll drop into a cockney or whatever they call it. (If I just said something foot-in-mouth worty, forgive me! )
