I guess not. I don't tend to buy any olives, because, as I said:

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I made that offer in good faith, told Boon it was his to administrate, and that it could stay up even after fanedits.com went live. And I would've kept my word.

Whatever articles you write for other sites, I recommend staying away from advice columns.

HELL, I REMEMBER WHEN YOU ASKED EVERYBODY IF THEY WOULD PAY FOR A MEMBERSHIP TO THIS SITE, AND WE ALL SAID YES. MANY OF US EVEN OFFERED TO HELP YOU OUT WITH THE COST OF THIS SITE.

Which I never implemented or accepted because of this site's LLC status. The point is that if this were solely about money, this site--and the fan edit community that sprung up--would not be here. I would've taken it down years ago.

THIS WAS LONG BEFORE THE LLC STATUS.

I REMEMBER THE VERY FIRST THREAD THAT I STARTED ON THIS SITE. IT WAS "IS eBAY OUR SAVIOR ???" JAY LOCKED IT BECAUSE HE DIDN'T WANT PEOPLE THINKING THAT THE SITE PROMOTED "BOOTLEGS." IT'S FUNNY, BECAUSE NOW THOSE "BOOTLEGS" ARE CONSIDERED FAN PRESERVATIONS OF THE OOT. "BOOTLEGS" WERE NOT TO BE SPOKEN ABOUT ON THESE BOARDS. THERE WAS A TIME PERIOD WHEN JAY WASN'T AROUND, AND BOSSK, GUNDARK, MOTTI, AND I TOOK CARE OF THE BOARDS BY MAKING SURE THAT PEOPLE DIDN'T VIOLATE ANY RULES. YEAH, I'VE WANTED TO BE A MOD ON HERE FOR A LONG TIME, AND JAY HAD EVEN SAID THAT AT SOMEPOINT HE WOULD "IN FACT" MAKE ME ONE, BUT IT NEVER HAPPENED. IN THE OFF TOPIC FORUM WHEN THERE IS A PROBLEM PEOPLE DON'T PM JAY THEY PM ME. WHAT DOES THAT SAY ???

I hate it, when people say to me:
Jay:
Shut the fuck up.

Even if they are webmaster of OT. Somewhere there was writen something about respect... but that must have been a one-way-road.

uhhh wow

I hate how this place is coming apart at the seams. yeah I remember those days dayv, and things were in very good shape at that point, I am still to this day surprised why your not a mod, You bossk and motti pretty much were the mods for a long time, I joined in a little after about a year here but it was mostly you guys.

I am also shocked at how jay is reacting. From my understanding of the posts in this thread, someone marketed there site using ot.com without telling jay, yeah that’s a real asshole of a thing to do but jay your acting as though they hacked onto the site stole your software and then ran off with it. Telling warbler off for demanding something, common he has been here long enough you know he wasn’t DEMANDING IT, it was just his way of saying what’s going on, that’s just the way he is. I donno why your such a hot head about it. All I know is that if dayv leaves over something that stupid then wow. You are really putting your efforts in the wrong place. Like this site has already gotten stale, do you ever read the star wars discussion folder anymore, I can at any given time go in there and 90% of the threads are Lucas bashing. Like for fucks sake there is one in there that's titled "Lucas is so stupid". I donno maybe its time for me to move on too, all I know is that if dayv who is pretty much the last of the old members that posts often leaves this site will be losing a member who actually helped define this community, you know all those people that come here and say that OT.com is so great its so nice here, its cause of posters like dayv, and posters like that are getting very few and far between, god knows that half the people that post in the SW discussion thread are a bunch of arrogant pricks. I find it kind of horrible how you have so much tolerance for posters like that, or ones like stinky who personally insult other members on the forum, yet when it comes to someone like dayv this is all it takes for you to be ready to drop him.

there are two sides to every story.

Jay's a good guy, as I'm sure you all know. He felt that the other site was using unscrupulous means to broaden their base. boon and dayv altered the way they were contacting people, but it just wasn't enough. the damage was done. whatever happened behind "closed doors" between boon and jay is none of our concern. It seems all Jay wanted was a heads up.

On the other hand, Dayv is also a good guy. He felt censored on this site and handled it accordingly. Sure, the last few hours of posting between the two were heated, but would you have handled it any differently?

In the end, it all comes down to comfort and pride. Personally, I am very proud of being a small part of this site. It truly is a community where I have gained a few friendships that I feel will last long after this debacle is finished.

i donno if all jay wanted was the heads up then i dont see how he could get as pisssed as he seems to be. he doesnt seem to be takin this is the "Oh you guy cant do this, if you had told me before hand i wouldnt have minded but since you didnt too bad." he seems alot more pissed then that.

It seems as if there were some heated emails/PMs/posts going on between Boon and Jay. I doubt it started like this. and I believe this thing has been going on for some time. a week or two probably. this is just the end result that we are seeing.

ic ok well i am speaking from what i am seeing. and those emails must have gotten very very inflamatory for it to have gotten to this point.

yes, two sides, and soehow I get the feeling I should also and hopefully finally say something:

what we made was create a showcase website for fanedits, because several of us had the feeling that OT was not sufficient for representing fanedits especially to new visitors. you know how hard it is to find something here or to surf through the thousands of posts for something you are looking for. Our small website, let me call it FE, was easily set up and the next thing was to acquire some faneditors to get their info posted. We used different sources: piratebay, demonoid, some other torrent sites, some other forums,w here people talk about fanedits and of course OT to do that. We attached a little forum to our website, so people could talk about what they saw there.

And that's about it.

I always loved OT, I am a regular here, visiting daily and I had no intention whatever to divert the community, actually it was Jay, who started these discussions and made our little forum more important than it was supposed to be (later we had to find out, it was also a money issue that made this all so bad). We wanted to be an addition, not a replacement, and I think we still are, though, since the flamewars have already started, it seems people have the feeling they have to decide for a side, but I say: don't do it. If you can visit what you like, just go there, because you like it. Friendships are more important than websites. When Jay offered me to swallow our website and keep it under OT so the community stays together, I offered him to delete our forum (since he claimed this was the main thing concerning him), if people could talk on OT about FE. I saw and see no reason, why FE has to be within the OT server to keep the community together, especially if we were fully linked to each other. Jay has denied that request. Is it a trust issue? Now why should I trust Jay more than he trusts me? This has become way complicated.

So, think what you want about us contacting faneditors to post information about their fanedits in a showcase. If nothing is taken away, nothing is stolen.
I will not accept to be treated like a betrayer.

Nothing about fanediting is easy.

When this site was first launched, discussing bootlegs was not its goal. Things change, and the site changed with them.

You also acted like a complete nut when I locked that thread. You went so far as to demand your name be removed from the petition.

That they don't know who the assigned moderators are. Positioning yourself as unofficial mod doesn't make you one.

Also, please show me where I said I'd give you a mod position. I never promised you that.

This is what I've been saying to these guys from the beginning. Instead, I get a bunch of lip in return about how I'm sour they "beat me to the punch".

Boon, I offered exactly what you asked for: you keep your site intact minus the forum, and you can discuss the site here openly. I only offered to host it because your hosting costs go to zero and everything is housed in one place. That, I still believe, is what's best for the community. You never would've had a banner ad or anything that made your section of ot.com profit-generating. It would've been YOURS.

I never, ever, ever, would've stolen your content or wrestled it from you using whatever legal means Dayv is talking about.

I think the thing that bothers me even more than the way this all went down is the low opinion of me that seems to have come out of nowhere...people whispering in dark corners about what evil plots Herr Sylvester is hatching.

Just ridiculous.

Actually it was only you by using your Gestapo methods on so many nice peole here.

Of course you might say it was me, or Dayv or some shadowy background visitors talking badly about you and starting rumours, but that is entirely not true.
You started the secrecy by editing profiles and posts without a statement and caused irritation by that and no one understands it, who visits our showcase website.

You want to start a similar website. Go for it, I am loking forward to it. I am sure it will be a huge success and I am talking again about fanedits here, not about money. Will I pay to visit it? Never!

Now did you ever mention to spare us money? No. Did I ever mention money or what our website costs us? No. Did you mention your costs for OT? All the time. The reason you offered to host FE was unclear from the beginning, especially since you rejected my offer to delete our forum, when you requested it. I would have gone with you and OT, I asked for companionship all the time, but now it just feels bad and it seems there is no way back, since you have been behaving like a complete a-hole towards one of my friends and moderators; Psycho Dayv.

Look how you talk to regulars, look how angry you are, when you should be superior, especially because you cannot change what happened. You owe the BIGGEST website about fanedits existing, people like and trust you and come here to spend their evenings, even days, searching for posts to answer to or just to have fun.
I had no opinion about you, before I talked to you and my opinion now is not an issue here. But I think that the statements you made are what refers to what people think about you. There we are at this respect thingie again. It is hard to get, yet easy to lose.

I can go on with this forever, but how about that. Let's stop these discussions and accept us for the fanedits showcase website we are.

I think this whole thing comes down to a misunderstanding. Boon claims that he and his "associates" took Jay's offer to host your site as some sort of issue of control. But at the same time, your new forum makes you look like you're trying to compete with OT.com.

To be honest, when Dayv first showed me the site a day or two after it went up, I didn't know what to think. Dayv talked about it as a "sister site" to OT.com, but if that was your intention, why start a large forum with topics about preservations, Star Wars, Star Trek, and Sci-Fi? You can't expect us to take that in any other way than you're trying to compete with OT.com.

Boon, you assume Jay is talking about money as if his only goal is to profit off of this site and fanedits.com. Like Jay's some sort of Phillip Wise TFN mogul who doesn't even know anything about the fanbase and is only in it for the money. This is far from the truth and you know it. Jay throws the money issue into the equation as an experienced webmaster should. By throwing up a web site and a forum on someone else's server, I hardly expect you to know anything about what it costs to run a site with as much traffic as OT.com. But Jay does, and he knows that this site costs hundreds per month just for hosting costs alone. As one of the admins of this new web site, you should understand things like this. It's not about charging people for admission, it's about being able to pay for the privelege of having your web site online every month. Just ask Xavier over on MySpleen how important money is.

This whole situation is rubbing everyone the wrong way. It's unfortunate that things like this happen, but it is inevitable as the evolution of our community comes to pass.

man oh man i unfortunately dont see a way to resolve this. the only thing that may work is for the other site to change its name so that its not so similar to jay's in that way they will not be directly compeating with eachother, and the two sites can go there seperate ways.

since I am adressed, I may answer. hi Zion.

1. the forum on our website is now starting to pulsate with life BECAUSE we are not allowed to use OT forums to talk about anyhting regarding us anymore. Instead of tlaking around and not linking, we do our talking where we are not limited. You would do the same, I guess. It didn't look like this a few days ago. What you see is the development after being forbidden companionship by Jay himself. And we don't rest obviously, that is for true. We are creating something, people might like to be part of, which is their decision. Our forum started very small and in the beginning no one posted there anything, not me. You may want to take a look at the first post and how much time passed until the next one was made and so on. Call it evidence if you must, but I am not a liar. Our webmaster is a huge Star Trek fan, he created our forum and that explains why there is room for sci-fi, ST and SW talk.
The thing is: now we want to be a home for those who want, for whatever reason. Call it competition, I call it neighbourhood.

2. Let's not talk about money again, please. And please let us not compare this LITTLE forum with a website like myspleen, where tetabytes of traffic are used to drive the torrents through. I know about prices in Germany and the USA (and USA are cheaper). Hundreds of dollars each month? What for???? If that was true I would start looking for a new provider. It is not fair, zion, to say, that I don't care about money, because I don't host the websites. Truth is: I care for my friends, who offer all of us a chance to do what we like to do, make a website about fanedits and talk about it. I don't know how you treat places your friends pay for.

This whole situation is rubbing everyone the wrong way. It's unfortunate that things like this happen, but it is inevitable as the evolution of our community comes to pass.

I am not sure, what this means, but I agree that no one benefits from the current situation, but everyone will get bored soon. Still I think it is very good that EVEN HERE things finally get talked about, although hardly anyone of the OT community drops by in this topic.

All this secrecy just isn't good for anyone.

Nothing about fanediting is easy.

hi Shimraa,

Jay had the same idea, but sorry, first strikes first. Although I am looking very forward to Jay's fanedits website, we have been earlier using our domain and domain name and rightfully can keep it. If he wants to differ, HE has to think about something else. Given the current situation FE has no reason to give up anything. (We paid for the domain names too, you know) AND now think again about the generous and genuine offer, why OT wanted to swallow our website?

But actually I am not mad about the domain name thing, because it would have really bothered me, to find out someone has a similar idea with a close to identical name. Still: we were first.
