I've edited several posts in this thread, mostly related to quotes of a certain post. That post was in violation of a request I made to a group of people regarding a certain situation I won't get into here.

OK guys, it's pretty clear what's going on here, but can't we all just get along? I don't want Dayv or anyone else to leave OT.com but I also don't have a problem if he or anyone else wants to frequent another site. As Dayv mentioned in a post a week or so ago, there is no reason why OT.com and another site (which I won't name out of respect for Jay) can't co-exist, or even have a sort of unspoken partnership - a sister site, if you will. As far as I can see this whole thing is a non-issue. Having said that, I can totally understand why Jay would be concerned.

Dayv is someone I respect and enjoy talking with. I consider him a friend, and if he leaves I'll miss him. I'm sure we'll still converse via e-mail and possibly 'elsewhere', but OT.com is and always will be my online home and it will be a great shame if Dayv or anyone else started jumping ship. Surely this can be settled amicably without anyone feeling they have to stop being a member of the OT.com community.

I would rather have Dayv here rarely than not at all.

Well I don't get what is going on here. People have post links to other sites before without getting into any trouble. What is wrong with Davy posting a link to another forum. Unless Jay has good explanation, it seems like censorship to me.

I now find some of my posts in the Mangler Bros thread have been deleted. Jay, I demand to know why.

Yeah, this whole thing does seem kinda weird. I really don't see what the big deal is or why it's a deal at all.

This "sister site" was established without the knowledge of our staff, and its members used our private message system to contact ot.com forum members and convince them to participate. Some recipients of these messages found the situation very suspect and notified us about it. The goals of that site are very similar to my intentions for fanedits.com, which I announced and requested feedback for months ago.

Attempts were made to reconcile the situation. They failed. I requested that no one link to that site from this forum because, quite frankly, I refuse to support it given its origins and the lack of respect showed to ot.com in its creation. Dayv circumvented that request by directing people to another site that links to the site in question, and his posts were edited or deleted because of this.

Dayv's participation here is his choice and it only ends if he decides that is what is necessary.

I really hate it that posts here get edited to delete a link, but still there is no official statement from OT authorities, and still the site this is about is NOT inviolation of any existing OT rule. If you play police state, please let others know about it.

Okay, this is definitely strange...

WHat is the big deal? The other site didn't do anything wrong, Dayv just linked to it, right? I don't see how someone starting a similar website is a problem. New similar websites pop up all the time. I don't see Gamespot trying to get GameSTOP.com kicked out of business.

Fanedits.com is still a long time in coming, anyway, is it not? We don't even have the new Forum Software yet.

LOOK AT HOW MANY OTHER STAR WARS WEBSITES ARE OUT THERE. I JUST DID A SEARCH FOR "STAR WARS WEBSITES" ON GOOGLE, AND IT CAME UP WITH 29,600,000 SITES. YET THERE CAN'T BE MORE THAN ONE FAN EDIT WEBSITE OR FORUM ???

This isn't about competing sites. It's about the way in which it all went down and how the private message system on this forum was used as a marketing tool for another site.

Sometimes, it's not what you do, but how you do it that really matters.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I made that offer in good faith, told Boon it was his to administrate, and that it could stay up even after fanedits.com went live. And I would've kept my word.

Whatever articles you write for other sites, I recommend staying away from advice columns.

Which I never implemented or accepted because of this site's LLC status. The point is that if this were solely about money, this site--and the fan edit community that sprung up--would not be here. I would've taken it down years ago.

The mods will begin testing the forum beta tomorrow. Public beta soon after.

Fanedits.com is based very heavily on the forum software codebase. Read into that what you will.

Black olives are pretty damn good, though, I can eat them straight out of a can.
