I finally can download stuff and would like to know if there is a site where I can download Workprints and fan edits for movies like…

Friday The 13th, Halloween, Zombie movies, and other Uncut or Fan Edit or Workprint versions of Horror movies and other movies in general.

Carr's been around for a little while and asks a lot of things like this. (Carr, don't take this as a slieght to you, I'm just pointing out for those who don't know.)

The idea has been brought up before to create a torrent tracker in the vein of MySpleen that is intended exclusively for fan edits, workprints, uncut and OOP versions of films and I think it's a tremendous idea. Far too often have I read post after post on this forum about a title someone's looking to obtain that I know I have, but am too busy at the time to make copies. If someone were to donate webspace and whatnot for it and keep a server running for a little while, at least long enough to petition for donations, it could be really great. Hell, I'd even help moderate if someone with a technical knowledge of torrents would manage that end.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

A torrent tracker dedicated to fan edits would be amazing!

myspleen is the closest to that currently, but I am hopeful that sometimes someone will pop up with exactly that.

Nothing about fanediting is easy.

The thing about MySpleen is its way too populus with troll-like downloaders and the fact that it's damn near impossible to get uploader status really prevents a lot of great stuff from getting up there. For example, I might be inclined to create torrents of some of the stuff that I have, but I can't get uploader status and I do not have the time, energy and resources to copy the 150+ items that I have that could be uploaded.

you are so right about the trolls. I had HIGH TENSION MOE up there and felt like being eaten alive... this was really a bad experience. Still I know lots of people download from there. Sometimes life is a b*tch.

Why don't we just create an ftp transfer pay-it-forward system:

Person A sends a fan edit/preservation to Person B.

Person A posts in the designated thread (or new site if Jay won't allow it, there are free forum hosting sites) that Person B now has to send that particular fan edit/preservation to the next 2 or 3 (depending on the set number we all agree on) people who request it from them.

Then Person B posts in the same thread that they sent it to Person C and that they must now do the same thing.

This way there can be no leeching because it will be reported that someone refused to pif and noone else would ever send them anything.

Also for those with slow connections, a physical pif could be integrated into the ftp system, you get one in the mail, the fact that you got one is posted online, you send out two in the mail, that fact is posted online, and those people continue the pif through ftp.

Am I crazy? Does anyone else think this will work?

how much space and bandwidth does it take for a tracker site?
In it, not of it.

I honestly have no idea, as I am completely inexperienced with webmaster duties like that.

As much as I would love a tracker for workprints and other things I doubt it would draw enough steam to get good speeds and such. Running a tracker cost anywhere from 75-150$ per month, more for the much bigger trackers. Notice how all of them nearly have to ask for donations to keep it running. A private ftp does sound nice but we would need someone with a good connection and a dedicated box with a lot of space. Then again this is 2006 perhaps we could move on to something better? In the meanwhile I'm always up for snail mail trades,it's worked since 97' for me and I'm sure much earlier for others as well. PM Me.

You don't need a dedicated box, you can transfer files straight from one pc to another, and there is always stuff like limewire instead of torrenting, only problem is dvds would have to be in some sort of image file instead of a folder.
