Top Ten Favourite Movies

Author
Time
I invite everyone to post their top ten favourite movies of all time!

Now, I want to make it clear that this is a top ten of the films that you could watch any time, no matter how you're feeling, and enjoy them. This is NOT a top ten of the BEST movies of all time! I think 'Raging Bull' (1980) is incredible but I find it a very difficult film to watch, therefore I wouldn't include it in my list. You see?

Your 'Desert Island Reels', if you will!

No TV shows, TV movies, games, books, paintings, sculptures, tapestries or multimedia installations!
Mine are all feature films, but I see no reason why documentaries or shorts couldn't be included.

Also, feel free to change your mind any time! My favourite movies change from time to time, so I imagine most other people's do too!

I've done mine in chronological order, as I don't rank these above / below each other:

It's A Wonderful Life (1946)
Star Wars (Original Theatrical Cut! ) (1977)
Planes, Trains And Automobiles (1987)
The Princess Bride (1987)
Shadowlands (1993)
Dead Man (1995)
Heat (1995)
The Big Lebowski (1998)
Fight Club (1999)
Bubba Ho-Tep (2002)

Not an exhaustive list by any means, but these are probably the movies I enjoy the most:

Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars
Return of the Jedi
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Batman
Batman Returns
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Superman
O Brother, Where Art Thou?

Can't think of a 10th one to keep those 9 appropriate company...

Star Wars
The Empire Strikes Back
Return of the Jedi
Superman: the Movie
E.T.
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Goonies
My Life as a Dog
Back to the Future
Ferris Bueller's Day Off

As I'm sure anyone can see I'm a sucker for American escapism. There's just one movie there that's a seriously GOOD movie. I just really love superficial entertainment. Oh well.

Time
The Rock
Unbreakable
The Matrix
Punch Drunk Love
Dawn of the Dead (original)
First Contact
Lord of the Rings Fellowship
Silence of the Lambs
Pulp Fiction
A few good men

This list could be different tomorrow, because I love so many movies, but important for me here is: I am the first to list NO Star Wars movie... they are not even in my top 200 list. A matter of taste.

Nothing about fanediting is easy.

Star Wars series
Akira
The Breakfast Club
Clerks
Tron
Evil Dead series
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Spider-Man 2
The Matrix
A Clockwork Orange

In no particular order.

2001 - A Space Odissey
A Clockwork Orange
Fight Club
Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind
Memento
Shawnshank Redemption
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Pulp Fiction
The Empire Strikes Back
Drunker Master 2

I've tried to balance guilty pleasures with good films. Kinda hard after #5. You might notice a lack of SW films, that is because I tend to "separate" them from regular films.

boon23, then what you say about loving movies MUST be true. I can't imagine why ANYONE would even be near this website if they don't list Star Wars pretty high up in their favorite movies. I don't even like Star Trek and yet those movies might be in the lower end of my top 200. There's a good chance I'll never watch a Star Trek movie again. To each their own, I guess.

Well, it's only a top ten list. It pained me to not include Police Academy 4, but when compiling top ten lists one must be ruthless.

It's interesting to see what some people (myself included) consider to be one film when a series of films are involved. My criteria was that it had to be produced and shot as a single production. Superman and Superman II would have almost qualified if they hadn't stopped and restarted production with a different director, resulting in so much changed footage.

Others seem to consider certain movie franchises (or the good parts within them) one big film. That's interesting too.

The only film I can recall that was supposed to be just one and then was cut into two for profit reasons is Kill Bill. I can't think of any other film in which something like that has happened. There has been movies shot back-to-back like BTTF 2 and 3, Superman 1 and 2, LOTR trilogy, but those were specificly different and separated movies.
