Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the untouched Original Trilogy stored in the Film Archives of the United States Government? Or was it just the first one?

Well, I'm with the theory that we should all boycott this upcoming release. There is no other way. And it doesn't look like Lucas is going to die anytime soon. Hopefully the next person who owns Star Wars will be more appeasing to the fans. It's rather ironic. The man responsible for giving us this wonderful Trilogy of movies is the same man ruining it and taking it away from us.

The BFI has prints of all 3 films as well.

It was put on the National Film registry in 1989 (pre-special editions), so that is a deffinate yes.

I bet if he asks nicely they would lend them to Lucas for re-release; since he, you know, lost his.

LFL can release a high quality OOT. Despite what they are saying, the LD masters are not the best source. They simply don't want to.
