Probably lots of set up shots. The beginnings and endings of almost all scenes extended. And from what I hear a lot of more footage of the Alien itself making its way around the ship including the much talked about "box" scene which shows the Alien folded into a box shape. This scene is in the Heavy Metal Illustrated edition.

Wait, what? I've never heard of this scene, and I can't find any info about it on the internet. Details please?

In the scene where Ripley is making her way to the shuttle...when she turns the corner the Alien makes a quick appearance. Originally shot she turns the corner to find the alien folded into a "box" like shape. She gets a very good look at it and then it slowly begins to come out of it. The Heavy Metal Illustrated version of the movie (graphic novel version) that came out at the time had that scene in it. It also inlcuded the scene where the alien puts its tail into Bret's back.

Scott apparently shot a lot of footage showing the alien moving through the ship. But it was dramatically cut back for suspense. Sure it works better with less footage. But I would love to see that stuff. I wonder why stuff like that wasn't in the Quad box set?

Wow! Well, I'd just like to say that I thoroughly enjoyed watching this.
Nearly everything seemed to fit. The revised score and production audio, coupled with lots of new visual treats all worked together, and I thought that it zipped along at a nice pace. I even preferred some of the chosen cuts and pacing to Mr. Scotts. It may be that it was new or some another reason but I found myself noticing the score more here and it was great to hear some of the music sequences play out. I found that the longer segments improved the flow and I enjoyed spending more time with these characters.

Where did all of the extra stuff come from? There seemed to be a lot of it and peppered thoughout the film to keep, at least, my interest. Were the alternate opening credits created for this or had they appeared somewhere before? It has been a while since I looked at the Quadrilogy extras. Is there a list available of the source material?

I did find that I kept wanting to hear the final audio mix in places and wonder if the segments exist to create a more complete mix of the alternate score, on-set audio and sound effects, coupled with an extended cut of the film. For instance, I wanted to hear the sound of keys being pressed on the computer terminal. This would fall into the 'creative' category rather than 'preservation' though.

Great work guys! Keep it up and the hilarious easter egg was a nice touch.

WOW I got your Alien Redux "The Virtual Workprint" today, and while my PC was finishing up encoding Return of the Jedi,I had to watch it Immediately, and all I can say is damn, this is wicked cool! very well done MM,I really enjoyed it,also you did 1 hell of a job on the King Kong Spence Edit authoring, that is also very well done, and I also want to BIG time thank you for the "Other" dvd you sent me,that was really really nice of you,and it works GREAT,now my collection is complete.
thanks again for everything

I am trying to assist the seed but I can't seem to get my files to seed. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Is there a guide anywhere?

Excellent - thanks so much dark_jedi for jumping this onto the Spleen so quickly, as always - a man of your word

Glad the other discs were to your liking too - especially pleased that the working "other" disc was slightly more healthy than the last !

Thanks all for the feedback - so glad this seems to be an interesting curio for all to see, indeed there are a few sound cues that don't synch up 100% - that's just the way of the world !

Indeed - I'm having the same problem as suntech whereby the source files seem every so slightly different in size to the torrent file on myspleen - as a result the final torrent is reporting error sizes. Bugger ! I can jump on the leeching if necessary d_j to help out when I have the completed file, or maybe post the 4.3GB version on demonoid instead as an alternative - let me know !

(I'm sure you have the same problem suntech, though here's a mini-guide on way that I use in terms of seeding material you already own - in case you needed more general info: place the files from your disc into a folder onto the desktop, download the torrent file and open it with your client of choice so those new files appear on your PC in another location, stop the torrent and then copy your original files into the folder where the torrent files are located. Start the torrent again and after checking the validity of your source files the torrent should complete immediately).

I've often found that sometimes nfo files are different, or you need to download the demonoid text file etc. though usually its just a case of a few kb, and everyone should have the same source files for this since there is just a 1.0 out there

Thanks again all - and Appendix #3 is on it's way (very silly and minor this next one, in lieu of an explosion of greatness that fingers crossed will be #4 !)

Why did you use dvd shrink instead of just copying the files direct?

When I first started burning DVDs, I had this same problem. For whatever reason, DVD Shrink does NOT make an accurate byte-for-byte copy of DVD files, even without compression. Use DVD Decryptor or ImgBurn instead for an accurate recreation. Also, DVD Shrink will not copy any DVD-ROM files, either - only the VIDEO_TS folder files, so you're SOL there too.

I know it sounds funny, but I've always heard that for copying DVD files, just to get an accurate copy, you should filter your copy through a program like DVD Decryptor/ImgBurn, since just a simple copy and paste from a DVD can bring slight corruption, enough for the torrent to be off.

Ok now what we do we do? Restart the seed? Or do we let this seed run.

so what are you guys trying to tell me,that this up is NO good, hell I didnt know you could just open the disc and do a copy and paste,I thought you always had to use software?
and I have never ripped to my PC with Decrypter,or ImgBurn,(really not sure how, never used before, either one) I have always used dvdshrink(just without compression, when i didnt want it shrunk), or CloneDVD 2
If you guys want this Stopped just say the word, and i will delete,I didnt know it would cause this much grief, and that i would be the ONLY seeder.
DJ
or you guys can just use dvdshrink, and then copy and paste the dvd-rom folder, just like me,then we will all be the same.

I have stopped seeding untill you guys let me know what you want.

Hey dark_jedi - apologies, only just got in and checked the board.

Now that makes sense why the file sizes are different, even with no compression DVDShrink has shrunk the file ever so slightly (we're talking small - but still a drop).

It's totally down to you what you'd like to do dark_jedi - all I know is that if you transfer the files by just copying them over, or using DVDDecrypter you'll have a lot of seeds who would be able to make up the shortfall very quickly of those who jumped on it straight away, since their files will be *exactly* the same as yours.

I've just tried the DVDShrink approach and for some reason Azureus isn't recognising the files.

Apologies for a bit of a non answer ! I guess I'd be happier knowing that everyone out there has the same disc (and that you aren't the sole seeder), though I don't want it to cause you any extra work/grief ! Just glad to see it out there

Cheers,

MM

Well The best I could get this time is 99.3 % and It wouldn't seed. It is uploading as some files are 100% but it won't seed. Now this is my first time at doing this so I may be doing something wrong. here is what I did.
1. Went to mysppleen and clicked on the torrent.
2. Started the torrent to set up the directory files.
3. Stop the torrent and copied the files from the disc to the torrent directory
4. Had my torrent program do a hash check.
5. Restarted the torrent

Did I miss something?

Hey D_J,

We're there - I'm approaching 100% (got 99.9 which is quite common - no big deal) - I'll get the other .1% and we'll be laughing !

suntech - what client are you using, with Azureus this sometimes happens to me - actually remove the torrent from your client window (but elect to keep the files on your harddrive) - when you open the torrent again - the client should recognise the files - let me know if that works.

All DL peeps out there - see if you can lend a hand when you can, and thanks again D_J for getting this up again.

As soon as this is strongly seeded and we start getting other peeps completed I'll seed #1 again

Cheers,

mm

Well I tried that and though it took a while it got to 99.9%. It dit a hash check got to 99.4% then it downloaded until it go to 99.9% then it stoped down loading. So I deleted the files were less than 100% and copied them back from the disc. and success!

Alien 3: Bringing the Screams to the Screen
Alien Saga retrospective (recorded from HBO)

I remember getting my father to tape this one for me when it aired. I didn't have HBO. He taped it unfortunately on a cheap tape in EP mode.

It was really cool to watch at the time because it featured some Alien cocoon scene footage. And this was before the laserdisc was released.

Out of all the deleted scenes I have ever seen for a film the Alien cocoon scene has to be the coolest. And to think we knew about it back in '79 as well. I have some magazines from the time that had photos from that scene.
