ROTS was shown at some IMAX cinemas, but as TheCassidy suggested, it was just the regular film with no conversion. It is actually addressed on the IMAX site.

So trickbaxter, if your friend did indeed mention that it was ROTS that he saw, then his preferred amount of cuts is none at all.
