Thanks, belbucus. I essentially wanted to know if the '85 (and earlier) mixes were taken from the 35mm print masters and therefore contained the limited dynamics mentioned by Dave Schnuelle in your opening post. I'd like as much theatrical authenticity as possible, but I'd be prepared to accept the hybrid nature of the '85 mix in exchange for the increased dynamics of the 4-track master or 70mm print master. However, from what you say, it seems as if they both ('85 and original stereo) share that theatrically authentic (if undesirable) trait. What I'd really like is the 70mm mix as 4.1, but since that won't happen in the forseeable future, your patched Dolby stereo sounds like it's the best available. Looking forward to hearing your transfer of blitter's 70mm>stereo tapes.
