"RED CURTAINS: Twin Peaks Retold" Fanedit (Released)

 (Edited)

As there has been some talk of the old Twin Peaks show around here, I would like to share some info (and ask for initial feedback) on a project that I have had on the back burner for some time now. It’s called “RED CURTAINS: Twin Peaks Retold”.

It is a re-edit of The Twin Peaks show in order to make the “Bob” story unfold and feel more like a David Lynch move rather then an episodic T.V. network show. This production will be much darker in feel, and will also contain some scenes from “Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me”, “David Lynch’s: Industrial Symphony NO. 1”, along with audio segments added in from the audio tape “Diane: The Twin Peaks Tapes”, and also some re-edits of tracks from a rare Julee Cruise Extended Play CD. This is a major re-edit of shots and dialog from the show, and is not just a re-order of scenes and/or clipping events.

EDIT:

June 22, 2014

Due to the soon to be released “<span>Twin Peaks: The Entire Mystery” Blu-ray collection containing additional “new” unreleased footage from the original show and FWWM film, I’ve decided to return to this project.

The “RED CURTAINS: Twin Peaks Retold” fan edit project is on again, and will ultimately be presented in HD.

Sounds great, would love to see how this turns out. I think you should still keep an hour episode format, stop it more of less when the killer is caught.

There is alot of story there, so the main "Cooper / Bob" story would still have to be told over a series of segments. Rather then use the one hour format, I was thinking of making a few movie length segments. This way, "Fire Walk With Me" would be part one, "Red Curtains" part two, and "Black Lodge" would be the conclusion. The title "Black Lodge" is not final...

This edit sounds pretty damned great! Are you going to be waiting on the box set that's due by the end of the year to really begin on this?

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

this sounds even better than making movies out of Buffy the vampire slayer.

I would love to see that, fanfiltration, Twin Peaks is an all-timer.

Nothing about fanediting is easy.

I have been playing with this T.P. edit off and on for some time now, but other things keep poping up. *grin*

I have all the episodes on VHS & some on LD, so I had started with that as the project's sorce. The new DVD box sounds great, but who knows if the release date of that new set will happen or not. Twin Peaks and other Lynch titles have had such bad luck that I am just going to go on with what I have now. If there is a demand for it, or if I have not yet released RED CURTAINS, a re-make can be made from the DVDs as sorce. I could have used the DVD set for season one, but the shift in quility would have been too much of a jolt.

One of the problems with the film format that I see, is that the season 2 opener (which is directed by lynch) is 90 minutes. It's very lynch in style of course, and has a lot of what one would want. Chopping it up might be an eidting problem. Just thinking off the top of my head.

These are very welcome and valid concerns!

This is just what I am looking for, and believe I have taken some very creative steps to overcome your concerns. As a rule, I try
to inject fun video & audio editing techniques to amuse a fan who probably is very familiar with the original material. The pilot
film & season two opener had been very good, but they have some things I would like to add / change. Also, the quickly made
extended ending made for the theatrical release of the pilot episode is confusing and poorly executed in my opinion. It may take
4 or 5 feature length segments to tell the story corectly, but that will have to remain to be seen. Please keep an open mind, and
be assured that this will be much more then just a cut and paste project. Thank you all for your input!

Thanks! I'll be sure to try and do the T.P. mythos justice.

I'm going to run off work prints of this project so that I can send it out to some of you fans for testing. I'll take a look at all suggestions and comments and try to incorporate all changes into a master version that will use the Soon to be released DVDs as masters. If any of you want to be on the "RED CURTAINS" beta viewing team, please PM me.

FF, if I could volunteer to be a workprint reviewer, I'd really love to be. Lynch is by and far my favorite director and I've watched the entire TP series 3 or 4 times, with the occasional marathon of the first season when I feel like eating apple pie.

You'll get no arguement from me about the pilot. However interestng the ending it doesn't work, at least not for me. It's very Lynch and it wasn't yet in the bag that a series would happen so he went for it. Or maybe it could work with the right editing. Now I'm second guessing.

This is an awesome idea. I remember renting the pilot on VHS in the UK before it was broadcast and got hooked instantly.

Got lots of names on the test list. Thank you all!

As it looks now, I hope to have something done on this project for testing by early fall.

Need to get Thunderball out in the next week, and we found a few fixes on Planet of the Apes to be worked out still.

Thank you all for your suport. This is going to be a lot of fun!

One thing that would be cool as an extra would be to preserve the Falling Music Video, the Georgia Coffee Comercials, and the SNL Skit with Kyle. The Georgias might be harder to find a good copy but the SNL and Falling video can be found on Cable TV every once in a while.
