How to create Day For Night effect?

How do I take footage shot in daylight, and filter it so it looks like it was shot in moonlight at night? What programs would work? I'm using Windows XP.

The scene in question is from AOTC, where Anakin and Padme are on the padio overlooking the lake.

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

That's a good question. To my knowledge, two DFN shots that I've heard of are the bedroom scene in Manunter (The night before he leaves to find the killer) and scenes of Oliver Reed in Gladiator (Since he died during filming, Scott reused existing footage to make the remaining scenes that he needed.) In these cases, there seemed to be a lot of deep blues, kinda like Terminator 2. Maybe that had a lot of DFN shots as well?

JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

What are you editing with? The most powerful color-correcting tool is Magic Bullet. It's used by a lot of the pros. You can probably download it with just a minor bit of poking around. It's basically just a plugin, but it plugs into just about any major editing software.

Only thing about it is that once you change the video, it takes a helluva long time to render out the video. It's usually worth it, though.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

wouldn't one option to do it cheap and dirty quick to put a layer of blue on top of your day footage and then alpha it over the top so you keep your blacks but you can choose a transparency value to tint everything. you could even use multiple layers on differing values to give a measure of control.

I'm fairly sure someone here has already done that exact shot for a fan edit; so if you can figure out who I'm talking about then you'll be able to get some very specific advice!

[edit]It was Trooperman for his Shroud of the Dark Side edit. Screenshots are on the second page of the project thread.

They're are as good as I remembered them, though I think Trooperman did more on them. I've just quickly fiddle around with his shots in Photoshop at it is fairly easy to darken the overly bright sky while not losing the main subjects.[/edit]

[edit2]There's a very brief shot of the balcony scene in his recent trailer.[/edit2]

Ooh, a laserdisc. The Cheat's playin' something on a laserdisc.
Everything is better on a laserdisc. Whatever happened to the laserdisc? Laserdisc!
