Without the support of the tatooine scene, that biggs/luke encounter in the hangar doesn't hold much weight. Its bugged me ever since, as I'm sure it does most people.

Not me- I love that scene. It's the only new scene from the SEs that I like. To me, it makes Biggs' death more meaningful. The scene is short enough to keep it from slowing down the pace of the film, but long enough to establish the fact that they were close friends. I don't think the Tatooine scenes need to be in the film to support it.
