I don't know if this is even possible, but if GL wanted to, surely he could arrange for some kind of seizure of stuff pending an investigation, and things might mysteriously disappear in the process, even if you guys were found to be acting quite within your rights.
If that happens, it'll be like a scene out of Hackers where they hide the disc somewhere safe where only they know where to look. In our version, it'll be a secret backup contingency plan, codenamed "bindibadgi" where those of us who escaped arrest will all pack up and meet at the designated rendezvous point somewhere in Asia where copyrights don't exist. We'll sell our own DVDs on the street to make ends meet, and put the LOOK discs to shame.

...or not.

Yes, but I don't know much about pre-DVD standard sound formats, my question is then if you've got a DVD player with a 5.1 output, will it (or the amp) automatically detect the sound as being Dolby Pro-Logic (which is pseudo-4.0, right?) and output it correctly (or as best as possible) to your 5.1 set-up?

Even if your DVD player is hooked up with digital audio cable, your amp will detect the audio as pro-logic and play it however you've set up your amp to play that format. Some will automatically play it back in Pro-logic surround (stereo with matrixed center and surround channels), and some will play it back in stereo (mine automatically switches to THX Cinema surround mode whenever 5.1 or pro-logic plays). Either way, switching between the different sound modes is easy.
