Yes, but I don't know much about pre-DVD standard sound formats, my question is then if you've got a DVD player with a 5.1 output, will it (or the amp) automatically detect the sound as being Dolby Pro-Logic (which is pseudo-4.0, right?) and output it correctly (or as best as possible) to your 5.1 set-up?Originally posted by: THX
My feeling is you should not buy the Special Edition DVD under any circumstances (except as a way to get the OUT discs between Sept & Dec 2006).
Yes, well what I mean is if you expect 5.1 sound you should watch the special edition, not the theatrical edition - and if you expect the highest film grain removal, then you should watch the special edition, and if you expect to see a CGI Jabba in ANH and Hayden Christiansen as Anakin's ghost you should watch the special edition, rather then the theatrical edition. And the X0 is the theatrical laserdisc, and as Zion said that's what they intend to preserve, and so if you expect to watch the X0 you shouldn't expect it to have the highest film grain removal, or to have a 5.1 track, or to be including special edition changes like no more orange blob under the speeder. It's funny, because a lot of forum members want to cherry-pick some of the changes, and there are other projects that do that, like this one, for example. It could be played back in stereo or Pro-Logic surround just like any other Pro-Logic audio source. So all I meant was that you have a choice, you can watch the 2004 version, the theatrical versions official dvd in september - and you can download the X0 version - once ready - and you can choose between the three which you want to watch.
