I wrote a letter to Mr. Maltin about the DVD controversy, and I just got a response:

"I'm sure the folks at LucasFilm are aware of the outcry from diehard fans, but if you know anything about George Lucas, then you know that he tends to do exactly as he pleases.

Leonard"

Not exactly what I was hoping for- but there you go.

I'm still waiting to hear from Roger Ebert. He's been sick, so it might be a while if he does decide to respond.
