The Ultimate Catch 22

Think about it...this whole OOT situation is the ultimate catch 22.

We want the OOT in the best possible way, but Lucas won't do it for whatever reasons/lies he conjures up. We on the other hand, are completely screwed here. If we don't buy it, Lucas will think no one wants it and therefore, we think we'll never see the OOT EVER. If we do buy it, we make the little bastard richer in which case he'll dangle the OOT in front of us again at some point and we'll be right back in the same situation.

I mean....really think about it.....that is some EVIL businessman tactics there. Lucas knows what the hell he's doing. Artistic freedom/creativity be damned. He KNOWS exactly what he's doing....and there's really nothing we can do about it. The majority of us here are GOING to buy it.

The only way out I would say for us.....is to simply buy it in September. If Lucas never releases it again...hey...we have it. If he finally does release it again restored and done right, then buy that......but keep in mind that when you finally get what you want, then that's it....don't EVER buy it again.

I'll buy it in September and if he does offer it again done right, then I'll get that....but after that, screw it. No HD or Blu Ray or whatever. I'll get it on standard DVD and that's it.

...only solution I can come up with....I don't like it, but what can ya do....we might be the fans, but hell....we're totally powerless here.

I wouldn't even say we want the trilogy in the best possible way. Just 2006 industry standard.

I would want it in the best possible way. It deserves that, and as we have seen, anything but that means Lucas will slack off. I've mentioned that this is a catch 22 time and time again, but I firmly believe that this isn't the last we'll see of the OOT on DVD. We're not that powerless. After all the OOT is coming out, even if it is a substandard release. We're gaining ground. We've borken through the first line. Let not give up now.

I wouldn't bank on any HD-DVD or Blu Ray yet.....there's still a format war going on and I'm not buying ANYTHING of either until it's over. I ain't got money to blow on that bullsh*t.

Besides.....what's so bad about DVD? The quality is pretty damn good and enough for me. Isn't there a point where sound and pic quality gets a bit much....I don't need to see the pores on Luke Skywalker's face, okay?

But I digress......

I agree.....if this was anamorphic.......I would buy this and would never buy it again. It would be good enough for me.

but I firmly believe that this isn't the last we'll see of the OOT on DVD.

Now I do believe this isn't the last time, but there's always a shadow of a doubt...especially when we're dealing with Lucas. He changes his tune every other day....so we really don't ever know what to expect with Lucas.

I agree, it is a total Catch 22. I fear that if these releases don't sell well, ANY chance of seeing the OOT again may be slim to none. So I was thinking about something: couldn't we all just buy them to push the numbers up, but leave them sealed and keep the receipt? After the reports come in, just return them, as you will be well within the 30-day window most retailers have in their return policy. I know it is not fair to the retailers, it isn't their fault and they will be caught in the middle, but it may also force the retailers to question any new SW releases from here on out, so George will get it from both the fans AND the retailers in years to come...

Yep. It'll probably be the worst-quality release in the history of the dvd format, but I may grudgingly buy it save the OT legacy. Im convinced its going to look worse than a beta tape, but lasts longer.

I'm sorry, I should have given context.

Since GL is clear that the SE is his SW, then in that context I don't want the best possible way. I wouldn't want him to compromise himself to any great extent. A transfer worthy of any 2006 release would be fine by me. If Lucas wanted to go all-out on this, that would be the ideal outcome; but giving us a 2006-quality DVD release would at least be meeting us halfway. This release doesn't meet us half of halfway - more like 10%.
