Sort of a shame he used Xvid instead of AAC (which IS supported by hi-def discs).
But XviD is a video codec and AAC is an audio codec? Perhaps you meant AVC/H.264.And we all know that his Xvids will be later used by somebody to generate HD-DVD/BluRay.

H.264 was in early development when Citizen did his version.
XviD is a stable, high-quality choice for MPEG-4 video encoding.
Anyway, the point is that Citizen's XviD was not made for HD players, it was made for playing on a PC connected to a 1024x768 native resolution projector.
