Indeed. The "JLU Supergirl" figurine looks like a 13 year old girl. Or younger.

Eventually it was, but at the time it was a marketing ploy to increase sales of Spidey. At first it was *only* a costume, albeit a strange one that was made from alien technology... but the writers gave themselves an 'out' by making it slightly different from the other costumes that the alien tech made (read 'Secret Wars'). Fan backlash was strong, mainly against the costume, so Marvel used the 'out' to make the suit try to take over Spider-man (and eventually become Venom). But enough fans enjoyed the costume that Marvel couldn't totally commit one way or another so for a time (circa 'Web of Spider-man #1) that Sipdey actually made a regular cloth costume that looked exactly like the black alien costume.

They didn't change the Spiderman costume, did they?

I noticed in the new "Spidey 3" trailer that they're using that black and white costume (for Spidey's "alter") that they came up with about 20 years ago when they tried to change Spidey's "look" for the comic book. It didn't last very long. LOL.


GreenCapt explained it, but I want to say that in Spidey 3 they did change the black costume from how it is supposed to look in the comics. In the movie they basically took is regular costume and made it black with those "lines" being a silvery color. In the comic and the 90s cartoon, the costume is a solid black with a big ass white spider logo. I posted a link in the Spider-Man 3 thread so you can check it out.

I didn't have a problem with Superman's suit. The red could have been a little less brown, and I'm not really sure how he hides those boots under his Clark Kent clothes, but then again how would he hide the cape too? It's a movie!! Besides, during a Daily Planet meeting, Perry White even says 'is that a new suit?' and tells his Fashion editor to get on the story, which I thought was a nice touch. At least in this film we actually see Clark remove his clothes to reveal the suit ubderneath, instead of just 'fading' into it like in the old movies.

I thought Superman looked pretty damn cool in this film.

Actually I think his cape magically unfurls like Hosehead the Dog's cape in 'Strange Brew'.

I like that the new suit looks more like a "superhero suit" rather than an underwear ad this time.

If that is true, then I'd rather have the "underwear ad" suit. Because the "underwear ad" suit looks more like the classic Superman suit from the comics then the suit used in this movie.

There were a few shots in the original Chris Reeve films that show him removing his clothes, revealing his costume underneath.

The new costume does look like the 'bad' Superman costume from Superman III, though!

BTW, have you noticed that all the SR posters and advertising bits color corrected the suit so that it looks more like its classic comic book counterpart?

I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

To everyone complaing about the suit: I must admit I udestand your grumbles, but it could have been worse. 2 years ago, when a new Superman moive was still in development hell, I had an informal meeting with a guy who worked as a concept artist at Sony Imageworks. He showed me his portfolio, which included some top secret Superman artwork. If you could have seen some of the suit designs that were considered, you would be grateful they went with the suit they went with. One of the suits looked kind of like this black one:

And another one, the worst in my opinion, was Superman in a suit of armour. I don't know what they wer ethinking, and neither does the guy whose portfolio it was - he said we was just told to draw that so he did, even though he hated the idea.

After seeing that artwork, I can live with a rust colour cape.

Just for the record, Superman in the first one is wearing that suit because he's just been revived from a death-like Coma and his normal suit being worn by an evil Cyborg.

The second image is not actually Superman but a shape-shifting being called Eradicator that thought it was Superman ressurected.

Yeah I know, I read the whole death/reign/return storyline. They did'nt actually look exactly like the examples I gave, but along those lines - just a whole bunch of attempts to come up with a new suit for a new superman movie, and they all sucked - great artwork but shocking ideas.

Why do they need to? There has still yet to be a film to get Batman's costume right. They always have to make it leather, or make it all black, or add nipples. Ugh.

Are you sure? The old Batman serials of the '40s mimicked the comics's costume, as did the '60s show and movie (although I always thought the cowl looked kinda weird with its little tiny ears and strange eyebrow and nose markings...).

There is no lingerie in space…

I've posted a great suggestion for a new Superman costume on here before:

It was put in Wizard Magazine in 2002 as a proposal for a revamp. It was likely inspired by the 15-page 'Superman 2000' proposal by Grant Morrison, Mark Waid, and Mark Millar.

Well, the 40s serials not withstanding. I'd forgotten there was a movie based on the TV series, but I was reffering to the five most recent theatrical movies.

Perhaps Batman Begins should have gone for a more classic look. Everyone says how great it is and how they prefer it to the Burton Batman flicks, but it owes A LOT of it's look, including the suit, to Tim Burton.

With regard to the Superman suit posted by Nanner, I mostly like it, but when you take away the elements of it that I don't particularly like (the collar, the new 'S' which really shouldn't ever be changed because that is Jor-El's family emblem, and those pointless bit's of red padding on the sides), you are basically left with the current suit but no underpants.

Also, notice how the red is not a bright red, it is a Crimson. It's a better choice than the brown chosen by Bryan Singer, but it's still a change. Why are some changes alright and others not?
