All right. I'm leaving tomorrow (vacation) and have had very little spare time, but I still wanted to upload a trailer rather than let you down

Trailer

It's a bit over 30 MB- I'm sorry about the large file size. It's also in the "Real" format; I tried to encode it in something more universal, but had difficulties and fell back on this. It'd be great if someone wanted to reencode it at a smaller file size or upload it somewhere else so everyone can see it who wants to.

I've discovered that doing trailers is.... very difficult. This trailer isn't very good by any stretch- there are some missing sound effects, and the pacing/rhythm of it is all wrong. I also came nowhere close to covering all of the bases in terms of what all will be in the edit. Also, noise reduction has not been applied to Anakin's voice or Lama-Su's voice yet for the trailer, so watch it knowing that things will be less sloppy and more clean in the actual film.

Still, it answers the question somewhat of what Anakin and Lama-Su will sound like. I might do another version of this trailer for the DVD, that is more professionally edited and that encompasses more of what I've done. But I wanted to get this out there before I left.

Nanner Split: I told you that your lines were great! They turned out well because you put all of your effort into the raw recordings, thinking that that was how it was going to sound. When the recordings were pitch-corrected and reverb was added, then you heard how you actually sounded. I'm very happy with how they came out; all I need now is your 2 missing lines of dialogue.

Thanks as always for all of your support, guys. I may be able to check in here a couple more times this month, but maybe not, so please keep this in mind.

-TM

That was awesome. the new voice is great. The only line that didn't seem to sync up was the "At Your Service", and when he throws the rock it was very very loud. But other than that it was great. I can't wait for this in my DVD player.

Very nice trailer, Trooperman!!!! But there are two things I want to mention:

1. Maybe you should raise the pitch of Anakin's new voice a little bit, but only A LITTLE BIT! In Episode II Anakin is a thin person, physically. Such a deep voice doesn't seem to fit, but I like it at all, especially considering Anakin's later voice: James Earl Jones. So, only A LITTLE BIT!

2. I love what the kiss scene has become. It looks like it happen's in the moon light. Very romantic!!!!!!!!

All in all, if you adapt Anakin's voice A LITTLE BIT, I have no doubt that SOTDS will create the feeling and atmosphere of the Original Trilogy! Wonderful!!!!

I agree make the pitch just a little tiny bit higher, but still keep it deep.

Trooperman,

Excellent Trailer! I loved the color changes in all the scenes, especially on Tatooine and in the Droid Factory. And the dream sequence...Well done! I do have a few comments and opinions.

1) I agree with everyone else on raising the pitch of the voice. He's more of a teenager/young adult in EP II and it sounds like he is a mature man which he isn't yet. But overall excellent change! I really like the 'He held me back!'

2) What is he saying in the first scene when Padme says "Ani?" Is it 'Hey' or is he clarifying that it is 'Anakin' now. It's hard to hear. I like it with just him looking at her and saying 'At your service'. His look alone says quite a lot. If you want him to say something, what about. 'Who else? ...At your service' It's a little cockier/smooth and a nice introduction to his character.

3) Right before the speeder dive, I don't like the line 'I hope you like Flying'. 2 reasons, they are already flying, and it sounds like a forced/obvious nod to Obi's dislike of flying. I don't think it fits well. What about a simple 'Here we go!' or 'Hold on'? This is more OT like. When Han solo was about to do something, it was 'watch this' or 'hold on'. It causes The audience to get ready for this as much the characters around him.

just my 2 cents

I just wanted to check in here before I leave. Thanks to all of you with feedback!

Of all the things I was anticipating you'd say, I have to say that Anakin's voice being too low took me completely by surprise. I do see where you're coming from, though- because the thin kid onscreen doesn't seem to match. I can already see another possible problem inherent in this; people who have seen the original (basically everybody) are going to be expecting Hayden's voice. It may not work as well in your brain because the face and the voice are so connected at this point.

However... the complaint is legitimate. I was basing my readings more on JEJ than on Hayden. What lines in particular (just from the trailer) sounded too mature for Anakin? All of them?

I'd also like to hear a bit about Lama-Su and Windu's lightsaber from you all. I know only 3 of you have responded, but at least a dozen of you have downloaded the trailer. Let's hear more of you!

I'd love more honest comments like the above.

Thank you for the comment about the sound effect, Darth Richard. The mix is actually different in the film, but I wanted it to be heard in the trailer.

You're right. It's kind of forced, so that after the chase, Obi-Wan can say his line, "I don't mind flying, but what you're doing is suicide." (see, Anakin's line about "I forgot you don't like flying" is cut). However, "Hold on" sounds a lot more natural. I think I'll make that change.

Thought the lightsaber looked good.

The ships from Dune were a nice addition to that scene.

Was actually interested when Padme was running through the Droid Factory.

I agree with everyone about the voice being too low. At the very end of the trailer when he says "I hope you like flying," I think the pitch was much better.

The OT music worked well.

Look forward to seeing the final product.

I lightsaber was great. I know that was hard for you to get rid of that stupid purple color and make it blue. Props to you, I know that I couldn't handle rotoscoping frame after frame. I love the new Luma Su, that is very good. When I meant that he pitch should be altered jsut a bit I think you should alter it to sound more like the "I'm here to see my mother" line. I think that was the perfect amount of a deep voice but not to deep. The ADR work is great. You matched the voice to lips very well. All in all I really can't wait.

Trooperman!

What can I say? Awesome! The light saber and the day for night, the muted tones-- I just want to see more and more.

The issues I have deal with the mix-- the levels on the sound effects in the droid factory seemed off, also in Anakin's dream, and in a couple other places I didn't bother to remember because this is all temp anyway.

I think it's an interesting issue to face a new voice for Anakin-- and have everyone think it's too low. I've gotten so used to Christensen that it's like you say-- jarring to see a new one. But I'm not bothered by it very much. It's really the sound mix that makes it stand out to me-- when he's talking to threepio, the effects in the background change -- so it looks a little more like dubbing. If the mix can marry all these voices, then it'll be perfect to me.

I'm going to watch it a million more times now.

Love the Dune ships. Love the impact of the way Anakin introduces himself.

I think the dream looks (perhaps) too recognizable as ANH footage-- but it has such a big impact on the story that I'm not very worried.

Great work. Have a good break, then GET BACK TO WORK!

Even for a rough look, I am thrilled. This thing is going to be a great film.

And the voice is a little low. But it definitaly a step in the right direction.

Hey Trooperman,

I just got done watching the trailer.

Like everyone else has said so far, some of the voice acting was a little too deep and just a little too unbelievable for it to come out of the actor's mouth.

That being said, however, some of the voice acting was spot on - specifically, "I'm here to see my mother" and "I hope you like flying." It was different enough from Hayden's to be good, and more fitting with Sebastian Shaw's voice, but not so different as to be jarring or stand out. You are obviously capable of making that voice - just do it more now.

Other than the pitch of some of your lines, which can be easily corrected, the only thing that stood out to me was Shmie's (sp?) scream - sounds too much like a stock sound effect, and a little too shrill and different from the actress's voice to be believable.

As for the rest, the Dune cockpit shot fit right in (to my surprise ), the color changes were great, the blue sabre was nice, and overall it was awesome. I can't wait to see the finished product.

Nice bit at the end with the notes.

Congratulations! This one seems like a winner so far. Maybe we'll finally have the sequel to Balance Of The Force.

I just finished watching the trailer, and all I can say is get a new voice for anakin. It sounds like the voice is echoing or something. I guess its just different. I would suggest perhaps casting another person to voice anakin, maybe someone with a higher pitch voice. Everything else was great though! Just the voice! Its unexplainable..... The coloring looks really good, and the Kamino people's (Kaminoians?) dialogue sounds vastly improved. And after watching it the second time, I can barely make out what Anakin is saying, is this just me? I hope to see the complete project, and great work, trooperman!

It sounded like TM put his dialogue recordings through a couple of different filters before plugging it into the video. I agree that there was too much echo and it almost sounds at times that you slowed the sound sample down to give it an even lower pitch. I don't know for sure, but that is what it sounded like to me. Of course, the best recording would always be to actually use a voice-actor that has a deep voice. Short of that, just trying your darndest to make your own voice deep is most times preferrable to using a filter to make it sound that way. Since it seems that most people agree it should be a bit higher in pitch anyway, I think that TM will find a way to achieve good results.

I think that was a bit harsh. I think most of us aren't use to seeing Heyden with a deep voice. I think some lines porbably need pitch corrected but other than that it is excellent.

I think the trailer looked great & the Dune footage fitted in lovely! As for the voice maybe just raise it a touch but I am very impressed by what i have seen so far, keep up the good work

WHOA!!!

That trailer was...

First i want to say how much more excited i am now about this than i was before. The new additions look EXCELLENT. Mace with a blue lightsaber, the footage from dune, the recoloring of scenes. Damn nice.

Now on to the part that made me say whoa...

The voice:

................. OMG IT'S LIKE I'VE DREAMED. Is it a little sloppy like you said? yes But it's a good voice, forget that, great voice. That's what I was hoping for. i wanted to know your voice would be close to what i imagined the REAL Anakin skywalker would sound like, and i have to say it's so close it's scary. I can't believe this is real. *pinches self*

Ok, onto the sharp-eyed fanboy criticism.

The voice being too low? it does seem to clash with this girly-looking jedi lucas created.... (particularly the first lines "anakin at your service") but the more I listen, the more I like it. When it's all mixed together with the final sound track it should blend in nicely and not be too noticably dubbed. (Wow, you've got some cajones to attempt this. I commend you.)

Was C3P0 given new dialogue? I just noticed. Oh that's so cool....

There's still a bit of purple glow around mace's hand. Not that big a deal but it's there. *shrugs* overall a fine looking saber.

I'm not sure if you've already mentioned it but quickly i'll ask, was the "don't you touch me, AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH" a temp place-holder for something else? It's uh, it's a little cheesy. heh.

I think some of the re-colored scenes look a little too saturated with that color. the balcony one and the tatooine one seem somewhat overdone.

Your work here is spectacular overall. I'm so jealous, I want to do voices too... ha ha, well it's looking great. Can't wait for the final film.

i've uploaded it to youtube for all to see. this is great. (oh er, don't check out my vids.... they're too embarassing...)

I like the voice, but my problem with it is that it sounds too voiceoverish, like the quality was great, but it sounded like it was recorded in a booth too much. Other than that I am now a big cheerleader for this edit, it looks sweet.

I agree with Wes, the colors on Naboo are to blue, and Tatooine isn't as bad but it still doesn't look quite right.

Now it’s my turn to comment on the trailer! Alright, you know I’m going to be picky, but I’ll be gentle!

-Yes, I agree with everyone about Anakin’s voice. Just pitch it up a little. But yeah, I’m amazed at how much you sound like JEJ! It’s great!
-ALSO be careful with Anakin’s enunciation. His line “when I first started my training…” sounds like he’s mumbling. In fact, you might want to take the opportunity to change that piece of dialogue.
-I like the “at your service” line! Padme’s reaction is great!
-Yeah, I’m not sure about some of the color correction. The moonlight scene is a little…eh. But there’s probably no way around it, so I’ll deal with it.
-Love 3PO’s new dialogue! Can’t wait to see the rest of his scene!
-Shmi’s dialogue and scream *does* sound canned. You could add some reverb to her voice and make it sound more dream-like.
-The ANH and TPM clip will work, I guess. I know you tried to disguise the clips and make it more like a dream, but us fans will know. And maybe that’s not really a problem!
-Mace’s lightsaber: You gotta love it! Man, what a pain to do that frame by frame!
-Lama Su’s voice: Amazing! Great new dialogue!
-OK, so the dune footage might actually work! It looks pretty fun!
-The “I hope you like flying” line should go. But that has been discussed.

Side note: I think it would be alot of fun to have Anakin say: “I have you now!” just like in ANH. Not sure what scene though...

Again, I can’t wait for this thing to come out!
Please take my “negative” comments about the trailer to fuel your passion in finishing this awesome DVD!
I know this is really too early to ask, but: Are you planning on playing around with ROTS?

I agree with the enunciation - I still don't know what was being said after "training."

The reverb and tooling around would help alot.

ANY infamous Vader lines you can include would be cool.

Very impressive! I really like the new colors, takes away that fake entirely-filmed-in-front-of-a-green-screen look. I have to agree on the voice however. I have listened to the trailer over and over and over so I could get used to the voice. I like it, but as somebody else said, it does sound a bit filtered, and as everybody else said, it is a little too high to match Anakins look. Also something to bear in mind with the depth of his voice, he doesn't have to sound so much like Vader at this point, for one he is younger, and for another the suit adds a lot of depth to his voice. In ROTJ after his mask is off his voice is not near as deep, also in ROTS he went from his whiney Hayden voice straight to JEJ once he was in the suit. I do like the idea of making his voice deeper though, I thought the line where he said "I hope you like flying" sounded fantastic. Also the "I am here to see my mother" sounded pretty good. And the trailer itself looked great, I really liked the Starkiller Ranch logo with the notes in the background.

Keep up the good work. I have a feeling Attack of the Clones is about to lose its spot on my DVD shelf come November.

Wow, fantastic trailer! Mace's blue saber, new colors, Dune footage.....whoa!

And as for Anakin's voice...well, wouldn't you be striving to sound more like Sebastian Shaw that JEJ? Just a thought.
