I have a theory (which is really just a front for a half-baked opinion), and it is this:

Perhaps Lucasfilm seeks to weaken the OOT movement by dividing it into two camps - the people that will fork out for the OOT as a 'Bonus' extra (a.k.a. "settle for less"), and the people that demand perfection and nothing less (a.k.a. "the fussy cry-babies"). I don't mean to insult everybody by providing you with overwrought nicknames, I'm just trying to represent both sides of the argument. The perception of either group as I see it, is that the other group is sabotaging the movement, either by not showing support for the idea of the OOT in general (by not purchasing the September DVD set), or by giving in (thus demonstrating that OOT-ers will take whatever we are given/ buy whatever LFL throws at us).

I don't mean to polarise us here at OT.com, I was merely drawing attention to the idea of LFL's possible 'divide and conquer' tactic. I know we've already discussed the possible responses that LFL could have to sales (whether good or poor) of this next DVD set, but what will it mean for us?

What do you guys think, and what do you think we can do about it? Moreover, is it at all possible that we will have a unified front on this? What is our position?

The unified position is to complain as loudly as possible, even if we want these discs. Then, those who do not wish to purchase this release should not overly criticize those who do.

As I've said elsewhere, everybody should tell LucasFilm how they feel whether they will "Settle For Less" or are "Fussy Cry-Babies".

I myself am an FCB and proud of it! I have emailed LucasFilm and Fox telling them so and will send snail mail too. I encourage all other FCBs to do the same.

Those of us who are SFLers, I encourage you to join in with the SE disc return and to write letters to LucasFilm and Fox telling them that the versions of the OOT on the discs you kept are sub-standard.

I don't feel like there's been any bad blood between either camp so far. As long as the message gets back to LucasFilm, from both camps, that the versions being released in September are not of a satisfactory standard, then I'd say job done!
Don't you call me a mindless philosopher...!
