Spielberg was approached to direct the first HP movie but he wanted to hire american actors for major parts and have Haley Joel Osment playing the part of Harry, but he was American and had blonde hair. J.K. Rowling refused to have the films stripped of thier British heratige, and I can't blame her. So Spielberg refused to do it unless he got what he wanted.
