This should work, as long as the frame rate between old and new source material is the same:
1. Trim your new source to so that it begins on the same frame as your old material.
2. Open your premiere project and right click on the old source in the project window, select "Unlink Media"
3. You'll be given two options. Select "Media Files Remain on Disk" and OK. Your footage will now be considered "offline"
4. Right click on the old source again and this time select "Link Media"
5. Point it to your new source file and hit OK.
Assuming the new source isn't edited differently than your old source, then all your edits should look good, although you might want to go over the whole project carefully. Depending on how your old source was captured (by video camera in theatre?), a frame here or there might be off, but it should be easy to fix.
If it doesn't look right, you may need to right click on the source and select "Interpret Footage" to change the aspect ratio (or frame rate, although if the frame rate is different, this probably won't give you a good end product.
Let me know if that helps!
